The Zeus’ sound signature can be described as simply “warm”. I was pleased to note that he listed the Focal Elex as the first place position "real" headphone", right under a Electrostat. Clearly, it’s that darn price that I’m having a hard time getting over. I’m always invested in getting the most sound quality for my dollar, and I’m struggling with the Zeus’ value proposition.Its musical character is defined by a warm low end, in particular the boosted mid-bass. This tuning isn’t likely to appease those who are looking for a highly technical, bright or detailed presentation. But if someone wanted a musical, smooth and warm sound then this would likely be right up their alley. Bass In fact, this is what I can’t quite describe that well, Zeus sounds natural. So incredibly natural and transparent that I don’t really have a way of conveying it. When something has a certain coloration, it is really easy to call it out, but when something is really natural in every way, it takes far more time and effort to describe it. If Zeus has any coloration, that would be a slightly more body and lower midrange and slightly more upper midrnage presentation than what I’d consider absolutely natural. The sub-bass is also really strong, but it is comparable to what I would naturally hear at a concert, even an acoustic one that has low-reaching instruments. Lower powered sources like FiiO BTR5 won’t do a good enough job, so I don’t recommend them in particular, but I do recommend tiny DACs with tons of power like Lotoo Paw S1 or Earmen Sparrow. Treble : Extension is good. Its not thin. Its not sibilant, and its balanced within the overall FR. Its excellent. After the excellent unboxing experience, I had high expectations for the headphone’s build quality and Zeus didn’t disappoint. The spring steel headband is encased in a hard plastic enclosure with generous padding on the underside. The rest of the frame is metal, giving Zeus a reassuring sturdiness and promise of longevity.

Overall, Zeus felt as a more technical sounding headphone, unearthing a higher level of detail while also sounding bigger and wider on all axes, it had more information up top that would further increase the perception of more air around the notes and of a higher detail retrieval. As noted in my Helios review, the laser-cut grill is similar in appearance to the ZMF Verite grill with a dark wooden surround. The fabric used under the grills is different between the two models, with the Helios fabric appearing to be more flat paper-like and the Zeus having a noticeable texture in the material. Zeus Comfort The most obvious comparison would be with Ollo S4X which is a semi-open headphone that I’ve reviewed last year, it is a really good monitoring type of headphone that I’m enjoying immensely for quite some time. We have a slight passive noise isolation, about 5-8 dB, and they don’t leak absolutely everything, so you can listen rather loud without everyone hearing absolutely everything. Everything that’s magic in Zeus Elite is handled by the Daichi CCAW Voice Coil, which is a pairing between a new diaphragm membrane with an ultralight premium voice coil from Japan, making the driver movement lighter, snappier and faster. The magnets are stronger, which helps with the agility of the sound in Zeus Elite.It’s tough to decide whether the Zeus look truly upscale. The wooden cups, steel grills, and solid aluminum gimbals all feel premium. However, the interior sections of the band are plastic and are a bit creaky when flexed. The sliders work well and feel solid, but the thin wood veneer on the outside of the sliders seems to either be loved or hated.
