Review: AOS3 Age of Sigmar Dominion box set (Unboxing)

Some might think that white armour is impractical for soldiers who are about to bring the pain to their enemies with enormous hammers. But Hanna wasn’t afraid to take that risk with this stunning and noble white, purple, and gold colour scheme. Designed to work hand in hand with the new edition, this update brings together a host of changes and updates for your pitched battle games, including updated warscrolls for endless spells, new battleplans, and all the core rules of the game. The stern, defensive poses and vicious-looking, long-hafted weapons of the new Praetors and Vindictors lend the Stormcast a new-found aesthetic of drilled military discipline and formation, which all at once makes them seem more interesting to me than mere faceless hosts of immortal, teleporting angels.Adding 10 to the number of wounds monsters have suffered when determining which row on their damage table to use can really cripple some monsters (I’m painting gargants right now and they are sad and she isn’t even nearby), but be wary of getting greedy; a bunch of monsters can more than happily yeet her into the sun even with 10 wounds ‘taken’, and remember that Mangler Squigs get better again as they take more wounds . Also, uh. Skarbarand. Yeah. Run away from him, mkay? Sometimes it’s nice to get a look at the new models without the GW studio’s paint jobs. Why? Because sometimes the paint jobs can do a LOT of work to make the models appear even more epic and impressive. That’s not a bad thing (it’s also why seeing two painted armies go at it on the tabletop is so great). At the same time, getting a look a the bare plastic can also give you a better idea of the models themselves. So much has happened since the end of the Soul Wars – this is the best way to get a look at the new lay of the land. When Will Dominion Be Here? When it comes to cutting these parts from their sprues, I had absolutely no issues getting my clippers into the small gaps. With very little risk of damaging other parts of the model. I remember the days of Dark Imperium where the Plague Marines would have thin dangly chains with a sprue gate on needing you to carefully shave down excess plastic often causing damage. I did try filling these with some sprue goo, but the clean-up was hard as I simply couldn’t reach these areas easily. It worked okay on the arm, but for his hood, I ended up smoothing out gaps that should have remained as holes. Hobgrot Slittaz

Killaboss on Great Gnashtoof: Particularly storied Killabosses can procure all manner of terrifying, swamp-dwelling mounts from the Beast-breakaz to show off their status. The model comes supplied with a Citadel 105mm Oval Base.My absolute favourite models from this box. The Bladeguad Veterans Annihilators are the big mean bodied hulks of the bunch. Big detailed shields, massive hammers, gigantic shoulders. That armour would make even Marcus Fenix blush. However cool the "Great Gnashtoof" is to play with, it can’t hold a candle to Yndestra. Indeed, more broadly, the Kruelboyz in the box struggle to keep up with their Stormcast opponents. And when you break it down, it’s not hard to see why: in the game's points system used to ensure two forces are roughly balanced, the included Stormcast models are worth almost a third more than the Orruks. For starters, Yndrasta, the Celestial Spear is a gorgeous, beautifully designed diorama of a model, composed of elegant lines, and replete with personality – not to mention 200% easier to put together than she looks. Likewise, the Lord-Imperatant and Knight-Arcanum are full of satisfying detail, with noble poses that both befit a hero’s stature on the field, and make wonderful painting projects. You may get the sense that in Age of Sigmar, epic-looking models get to make epic-seeming actions on the battlefield, and you’d be right. As a miniatures game, this is as much about how it looks as how it plays. Two painted armies of these superb miniatures clashing on the table is an awesome sight, and the game rules try to reflect that in play.

This narrative campaign is fought on three fronts – the Ruins of Hardoon, Strangler’s Marsh, and Whiterush Strongpoint. Each player must decide in secret which of their heroes they will dispatch to each front, making for three gruelling battles before the campaign finale is fought. This will happen either in Amberstone Watch as the Kruleboyz seek to reclaim their hold over the town, or out in the Morruk Hills where the Auric Lions hope to rid the land of this orruk menace once and for all. Is it just me or does that Gryph-hound look a bit peeved that his owner is walking around with what could be a relative hanging over his shoulder? I’ve used darker hues to show the optional parts, e.g. dark red is the optional parts for a red model. Couple of days ago I received this awesome box in the post from Games Workshop. I’m going to be honest with you guys. When I received Cursed City a few months ago I spent a week filming, photographing, editing and writing my review of the game only for the game to sell out before anyone had seen the review. I felt bad sharing my review because so many people were angry they didn’t get a chance to buy the set. So that’s had a profound affect on me and this “review”. It’s not the units themselves – they are highly detailed and look great. But in every starter box in the last half-decade or so, we’ve had really awesome Feature Units, some rank and file and then we have these. Think Chainrasps, think Necron warriors, think Poxwalkers.

Strange question for you: is Yndrasta’s head the same size as the other SCE model’s heads (6 MM I think), or is it slightly larger (7 MM or more)? Wondering if a conventional headswap is possible, or not. Swampcalla Shamans never leave home without a Pot-grot to stir the heady brews. You just know that grot’s the life of the victory party. Killaboss with Stab-grot These peerless leaders are the finest strategists in Sigmar’s service, wielding the forces of the Stormcast Eternals as one unstoppable war engine. Conceptually, AOS factions have tended to go after original mash-ups, combining disparate concepts to make bizarre, but eye-catching hybrids (tree people, delusional ghouls, steampunk flying dwarfs, and so on). So far, though, the greenskins seem to have been left out of that.

While Dominion is aimed at veteran hobbyists, it is still a great starting point for anyone looking to get into Warhammer Age of Sigmar with the latest edition. It won't be priced as a starter-set, but if you're interested in playing either the Stormcast Eternals or Kruleboyz, then this is a solid place to start, as all you need to add is a tape measure and dice. The miniatures are also push-fit, with only a few options for construction, so no glue required, which is perfect for the beginner hobbyist. Dominion Miniatures Like the above, this will probably come in the mid- and top-tier Starter sets. Warhammer Age of Sigmar Dominion – Sprue G – Praetors When you come to your models, the build guide here is a necessity. Games Workshop has a really good approach to the parts on their sprues. The numbers aren’t random, they are sequentially related to the models you are building. This pair of reversible fold-out gaming boards have swamplands on one side and an arid wasteland on the other – all the better to show your games take place in Ghur, the Realm of Beasts. This board is designed with the new recommended sizes of matched play in mind – combine multiples together to create a battlefield of the perfect size for your game.Is this not the absolute best model to come out of a starter box, ever? The sheer wow factor of this is up there in the thousands. Perhaps it’s even over 9000! (DBZ y’all). Lets take a look at the models in “Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Everyone Has A Shield Edition” Vindictors
