About this deal

That’s all typical spec for cheap plastic camera except this is half frame. Hang on I’ve heard that focal length before – The lens is not the sharpest, and the shutter speed is slow enough that it will make blurry images if you’re moving, but that’s actually a benefit for this camera. Because The Kodak Ektar H35 isn’t as sharp, it makes skin look flawless, and people look younger.

There are a spattering of reusable compact film cameras with disposable camera-quality optics to mull. Most others are full-frame but are also good ways to try out film. This size makes it extremely portable and light. So it’s a perfect companion for any day trip or even just a walk to the shops! Any time you’re in ‘low light’ you want to use your flash. Low light is when you’re indoors, it’s dusk or dawn or you find yourself outside in a dimly lit area. You’ll get used to knowing when to use your flash, but it’ll save you from a lot of underexposed shots! Take Your TimeEven with the focus-free approach, you can expect fairly decent landscapes from the Kodak Ektar H35. Its lens has a 1.5m to infinity focus range. So it’s a great companion for a hike or city exploration. If Retopro is the same company behind the Reto Project, it typically makes full-frame 35mm cameras. Based on what I can tell, rather than design a new, proper half-frame viewfinder for the H35, all the company did was fit the camera with an off-the-shelf full-frame finder and insert a really ugly and distracting mesh mask to either side of the full-frame window. The stark limitations on the exposure triangle means that no matter how diligent we may be in selecting the right film for the job, it’s inevitable that some shots on our roll will be under-exposed and some will be over-exposed. This camera simply doesn’t allow us any latitude or creative control. It’s just not there.

Good review, except my first film was Kentmere 400 processed in Rodinal. They were not all taken on sunny days so I agree 200 is probably a better bet for good weather. The Kodak Ektar H35 fixes this issue, as it’s a half frame camera! This means you get double the number of photographs than a regular 35mm point-and-shoot camera. Instead of 36 exposures, you get 72! It is hard not to fall in love with this camera. Often, the most enjoyable parts of photography involve a camera that allows you to be free… to not worry about the endless settings found on digital cameras. The sharpest results will occur between 1-3 meters, and in the center of the frame. The edges do lose a little detail compared with the center. Tiffany & Co caught on Fujifilm XTra 400 on the Kodak Ektar H35. Distortion To use the Kodak Ektar H35 is simple. We load the film as we would any standard 35mm film camera, advance the film manually with the little thumb wheel, look at our subject through the optical viewfinder, and press the shutter button. If we’re indoors or in low-light conditions, we can rotate the control ring surrounding the lens to activate the flash. Once it has drawn sufficient charge from the AAA battery, a flash-ready light illuminates and we are ready to fire.

Image wise with a good lab you will get images better than the average disposable and the cameras in the re-loadable disposables. It can’t quite match the best disposables clinically like the Kodak Funsaver or Harman B&W modelsbut is more robust, easily reloaded and has more character both looks and image-wise. It lags behind VUWS clones and the current Dubblefilm Show/M35 clones but not by far and you potentially get double yer money. The image quality is not bad and has some of the feature of the VUWS lens although don’t mistake this for a half frame lomo.I would suggest using Kodak Ultramax 400 or Kodak Colorplus if you’re wanting to shoot colour. I would err towards Ultramax just because it’s a bit more sensitive than Colorplus, so it’ll be good in a variety of situations.

These cameras can only focus from 1 meter to infinity. So basically, if you are any closer than 1 meter to your subject then your subject will not be in focus! The only way to avoid this is to be careful when shooting into the sun. I suspect it is because the sun is right on the edge of the frame. So it may be best to ensure the sun doesn’t sit directly on either side of the frame. In this image, you can see a light leak from one spilling over into the next Alternatives
