I'm 23 now, and read her books when I was younger. Probably from around the age of 8 like your daughter. Wow.. These have changed since I was 8! I was also an advanced reader and was an unashamed book worm (still am at 25!), the books to me always felt grown up and I liked that about them, they dealt with issues some friends went through in a 'nice' way.. I honestly can't remember issues like this in the books though, and am unsure about how I feel about it now.. Love lessons is one I found in my cupboard just before Xmas when I was having a clear out. That's about a 14 year old that starts an affair type thing with her teacher that she babysat forAmy, Bella, Chloe, Daisy and Emily – aka the Alphabet Club – are best friends. Daisy is the newest member and so she’s trying really hard to fit in. But when the girls all start planning sleepover parties for their birthdays, Daisy can’t help but worry about hers… Double Act won the prestigious Smarties Medal and the Children’s Book Award as well as being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. The Story of Tracy Beaker won the 2002 Blue Peter People’s Choice Award. The girls in love trilogy are definitely for a slightly older audience so if you do buy anymore, don't buy these until she's around 13/14. I've always considered them to be for early teens age kids not 8yr olds. They are really good books and I remember reading them when I was younger. Tbh it only takes a watch of Tracy Beaker to realise they aren't all fluffy clouds and rainbows and a lot of it has real quite deep situations in. Never known a kid be harmed by reality and if anything it will make her more aware and appreciative of what she has and what other people have to go through.

Jacqueline is one of the nation’s favourite authors, and her books are loved and cherished by young readers not only in the UK but all over the world. She has sold millions of books and in the UK alone the total now stands at over 35 million! I can honestly say I read the books, possibly asked a few questions but was quite happy with the basic answer I got from my mum and never gave it much thought again. Because you have a lot more world experience everything might seem a little dark, I can imagine it would for me if I was to re-read them all now. But as a child, you don't notice it.

My daughter is 9 and we don't allow her to have Jacqueline Wilson books. I don't think it's appropriate for a primary school age child to be reading about divorce, alcoholism or children "dumped" in care homes.

I used to love her books but I'm a bit old for them now. I honestly don't think they are that bad. If anything if children don't understand it'll prompt them to ask parents rather than find out off of other children.
