About this deal

Comparing and contrasting gym shoes is sort of my thing, so to see which sneaker slid into the pole position this year, I donned each silhouette for multiple weeks across a number of training disciplines. From free weight lifts like squats and deadlifts to CrossFit-centric movements and plyometrics, varying running routes and more, I put both the Metcon 8s and Nano X3s to the test to see which brand delivered the goods. Outside of training performance, I also noted other key qualities like durability, comfort and (of course) style. The toe box on the X3s looks to be the same shape as that on the X2s, although maybe even a little bit wider (even in the pair that was too small for me, the toe box didn’t squeeze me–it’s just that the length is too short). Overall, I consider the Nanos to be a wider shoe. My toes have plenty of room to splay in the toe box. Colorways and Design However, during the more stationary movements when my feet stay flat, I thought the X3s felt great. I didn’t notice any unusual give or instability during squats, deadlifts, or heavy Russian kettlebell swings. I didn’t notice anything spectacular one way or another during machine work on the rower, bike, or SkiErg. I think new CrossFit shoes are always worth it. Jokes aside, let’s look at the X3s and decide whether it’s really worth upgrading from your X2s or a different pair of CrossFit trainers.

I truly do enjoy these shoes for all day wearing and gym usage. I love how they hold my foot in place and alloe my toes to breathe as well. When you think of the fitness realm, there's a number of brands synonymous with the category. In terms of training-specific footwear, both Reebok and Nike have longstanding presences in the field, delivering timeless shoes offering up plenty of performance and support, regardless of your workout discipline. Despite liking the Reebok Nano X3, there are a couple of contexts where I think this shoe will fall short. 1. If you like lower heel-to-toe drops The Nano X1 and Nano X2’s downfall with its ROPEPRO was the sharp ridge breaking on the medial midfoot. While I haven’t had a chance to test the Nano X3s for rope climbs yet, it feels more durable upon my first few workouts and impressions of this model. A dome TPU piece in the heel hardens under heavy loads for added stability when lifting and then softens when not under load. The dome is surrounded by Floatride Energy Foam for extra responsiveness and cushioning for running and jumping. Additionally, a TPU plate is connected to the dome for added lateral and torsional support and forefoot propulsion.” OutsoleComing in with Floatride energy foam like they put in their running shoes, giving you a responsive, cushioned ride.

I also like that Reebok fixed the rope climbing durability issue in this model. If you’re wanting the Nano X3 primarily for CrossFit, then I think you’ll enjoy the performance of this shoe and it should last a lot longer than the X1 and X2 for this training context. Who Shouldn’t Buy the Reebok Nano X3? The Nano X3’s Flexweave upper hugs the foot a little tighter and it gives this model a truer fit, so if you often felt like you were swimming in the Nano X2 then you should be in the camp that enjoys this change. The flat wide bottom almost slaps the ground as you run. Minimal running in the gym they worked okay but I did run a 5k in them to get a real running experience and it’s just not what they are made for.Thank you! I think you’d be safe going true to size in the Nano X3 if you have only a bit of length at the end of your toe box in the 8. If you have more than a thumb’s width, then go down a half-size! With the first pair, since they didn’t fit as tightly as they should, they didn’t feel as stable as my Nano X2s and X1s do. Comfortable, color scheme, and fit are awesome,” wrote one reviewer. “Great performance and exactly what I needed for cross training.”

In addition, this shoe also has what looks like the “metasplit” design that came in the Reebok Nano 7, 8, 9, and X built-in, however, Reebok hasn’t made a point to call this feature out, so I’m saying that more so as it’s a visual representation of the design and not a set-in-stone feature. I wouldnt reccomend them for dance classes like ballet but they could probably work for simple zumba. They flex with your foot but not to the extent of standing on the toe and are a bit heavy to really spin in. The Reebok Nano X2 is a great shoe for the general fitness enthusiast who likes to do a little bit of everything. Additionally, the shoes feature new midsole technology proprietary to Reebok. It’s called the “Lift and Run (L.A.R.) Chassis System” and it supposedly supports both running and lifting better than any other shoe available today. New this year, the Nano X3s feature a Lift And Run (L.A.R.) Chassis in the midsole. According to a press release from Reebok, this is a “new midsole technology built for stability when lifting and added cushioning for running and jumping.”For example, if you regularly train in barefoot shoes or models like the STR/KE MVMNT Haze Trainer which has a higher degree of sole flexibility, then you may find the Nano X3 to feel like “too much shoe” for your preferences. 3. Sole Runs a Little Stiff At First More colorways will drop as the year progresses, as usual. If you don’t see a colorway you like now, wait a few weeks for the new drops. I know, it’s pretty difficult to picture what I mean and I’m not the best at explaining the physical construction piece in writing, so in my review, I’ll be sure to include a picture and clip of the chassis to help give you more context. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed the ebb and flow of the Reebok Nano cross-training shoe line. I thought the Reebok Nano X2 was a step in a good direction for the Nano line despite it having a few shortcomings.

Over the course of my testing and review process with the Reebok Nano X3, I’ve found a few pros that I really enjoy with this shoe. 1. Good Well-Rounded Performance The Reebok Nano X3 will work best for athletes and lifters who like to blend multiple workout modalities together on a weekly basis. For example, the Nano X3 was stable enough for 500 lbs deadlifts, but also responsive enough for fast 800-1,600-meter runs which can make it a viable option for things like HYROX.As a taller lifter, I also like the slightly higher heel-to-toe drop as it gives you a little more “heel” for lower body exercises. If you like shoes with slightly higher heel-to-toe drops, then I think you’ll also enjoy how the Nano X3 feels for leg days.
