About this deal

As astounding and astonishing survey of this epic imperial family, The Romanovs is an incredible and insightful read. Did you know that Putin's grandfather was Rasputin's cook? The horrible fate of the Romanovs made me almost physically ill at the end - I of course was repulsed by their corruption, autocracy, anti-Semitism, and blind devotion to the despicable (yes occasionally wise) Rasputin, their ignoble assassination filled me with horror and sadness. I told such a good story that people always thought I was telling the truth. But I wasn't. I didn't have a three-legged cat or a ghost in my attic, and I'd certainly never been to Paris, France. I simply enjoyed telling a good story... and seeing my listener's reaction. William Clarke (2003). The Lost Fortune of the Tsars. St. Martin's Press. p.66. ISBN 978-0312303938. Soon to be a major motion picture starring Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient), directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters)

The facts in this book were mind blowing. I loved reading the letters throughout the book, whether they were from the actual Romanov family and friends but from the actual people as well. The things that they went through were heart breaking. I get that Nicholas was put into a terrible position and everyone knew that he would be a terrible leader. EVERYONE KNEW and they still went with him becoming the next Tsar. I also felt bad for Alexandra because I mean, these two were put into a terrible position with little to none experience or education for them to even do a remotely decent job at being rulers in Russia. The Russian Empire forms of various rulers who ruled as per their will. The Golden period of this empire was due to The Great Catherin. Her rule proved to be the turning point for the Russian Empire. Not only this, but also that the reign of Tars Nicholas II also played its part as the turning point of the Russian empire but in the negative aspects. We can say that his rule was the endpoint of this empire. He was the last of the Russian emperors and had to face a lot of miseries after he gave up his throne. Not only him, but all his family had to face the troubles along with him. Even though this non fiction book The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion, and the Fall of Imperial Russia is geared towards young adults more, this book is very readable for adults too as it gives you a very comprehensive overview of the history of Russia's politics around this time, but a fair majority of this book focuses on the Romanov family and the events that lead up to the end of the reign of Tsar Nicholas II. Based strictly on primary sources, the book offers previously unpublished texts in English. Among the historians who worked in the research team together with the monastery areKate Baklitskaya, Go East (21 January 2014), Royal dog fled from Siberia into British exile, living in shadow of Windsor Castle, The Siberian Times, archived from the original on 11 July 2017 , retrieved 13 March 2017 a b William H. Had a long talk to Alexeieff and Admiral Russin on munition matters, in which there appears to be some improvement, due no doubt to the energy with which the Emperor pursues this all-important question. This YA history was just enough for anyone wanting a general idea of what happened to the fall of the Romanovs, the last Tsar and Tsarina, Nicholas II and Alexandra and their beautiful family. What I really loved about this edition of the many books written about The Romanovs is the format the author, Candace Fleming used in presenting the story of the emperor and daily family life, then in chapters titled "Beyond the Palace Gates" which gave voice to the people. These clearly show Nicholas' disconnect with the common populace.

The story behind the cover for The Race to Save the Romanovs

Of them, one was an Emperor, one a King, and 5 were consorts of rulers; whilst most of the others married into European royal families. This overview weaves their stories together like a novel, taking us to the First World War, the fall of Empires at the end of the war, and then on into the last century where, of the 7 European monarchies still on thrones, 5 are descended from Victoria - the other 2 related to Victoria. Rappaport, Helen. The Last Days of the Romanovs: Tragedy at Ekaterinburg. St. Martin's Griffin, 2010. ISBN 978-0312603472. His preliminary report was published in a book that same year in French and then Russian. It was published in English in 1925. Until 1989, it was the only accepted historical account of the murders. [11] He wrongly concluded that the prisoners died instantly from the shooting, with the exception of Alexei and Anastasia, who were shot and bayoneted to death, [136] and that the bodies were destroyed in a massive bonfire. [137] Publication and worldwide acceptance of the investigation prompted the Soviets to issue a government-approved textbook in 1926 that largely plagiarized Sokolov's work, admitting that the empress and her children had been murdered with the Tsar. [11] In 1993, the report of Yakov Yurovsky from 1922 was published. According to the report, units of the Czechoslovak Legion were approaching Yekaterinburg. On 17 July 1918, Yakov and other Bolshevik jailers, fearing that the Legion would free Nicholas after conquering the town, murdered him and his family. The next day, Yakov departed for Moscow with a report to Sverdlov. As soon as the Czechoslovaks seized Yekaterinburg, his apartment was pillaged. [168]Porter, Tom (13 November 2015). "New DNA tests establish remains of Tsar Nicholas II and wife are authentic". They were at fault for a ton of deaths and a crap ton of stuff that went wrong in Russia. Again, people knew that they would fail and be absolute shit in their positions. So there was no surprise really at how bad things went for them. Pringle, Robert W. Historical Dictionary of Russian and Soviet Intelligence. Rowman & Littlefield, 2015. ISBN 978-1-4422-5318-6 (e-book). With Candace Fleming's excellent book, it's hard to imagine walking away with the same lessons. She doesn't shy away from including the family's flaws (and boy, howdy, those were some bone-deep flawed people) and doesn't get overly caught up in fawning over their picturesque lives. (Faberge eggs don't come up once, for instance.) Better yet, she includes stories of the world outside their lives of luxury, and many chapters end with eyewitness accounts of the poverty and hardship the less privileged multitudes experienced. By including the stories of the common people in Russia, it becomes strikingly clear just why revolution appealed to the nation. And by tracing the political interests of the different factions, she makes it easy to follow how the revolution happened.

Mi-a plăcut că autoarea a reușit să creeze o îmbinare originală între opulența nobilimei și sărăcia țăranilor fiind menționate mereu momente prin: dincolo de porțile palatului. After the fall of the empire, Tars Nicholas II and all the other members of his family had to face miserable situations. They were kept as captives, and all their lavish lifestyle and royalty ended. Peter, I became the emperor of the Russian empire in 1721. He stayed the emperor till 1725 until he died. The Romanov dynasty had an unlikely beginning in 1613 with Michael I being reluctantly brought in to quell the chaos that reigned in Russia at the end of the 16th C in the aftermath of Ivan the Terrible. The Romanov family then ruled with a heavy hand for just over three centuries fraught with politics, intrigue, Times of Trouble, revolutions, wars, and lots and lots of massacres. It was fascinating to learn more about all the Tsars - most of which I had heard about and knew next to nothing about their reigns. The tragedies of Peter III, Paul I, and Nicholas II (and Michael II as well although he was only tsar for a day) were horrific but still the violence was not out of proportion to the times they lived in. I believe my favourite stories in the book were those of the greatest tsars (and ts Welch, Frances (2018). Has a proper balance of drama and story to let the readers stay indulged in reading? It says about the ending days of Romanovs, discusses the devastating civil war and the fall of the empire. The Last Days of the Romanovs: Tragedy at Ekaterinburg by Helen Rappaport has managed to mention the tragedy of the irreplaceable loss of Romanovs in such a way that the readers start feeling the scenes. The choice of words and the choice of sentences is up to the mark. The book shares the details about the murders that marked the turning point in history. Murders that led to the end of the Romanovs who had been stayed rulers for three hundred years.Three days after the murders, Yurovsky personally reported to Lenin on the events of that night and was rewarded with an appointment to the Moscow City Cheka. He held a succession of key economic and party posts, dying in the Kremlin Hospital in 1938 aged 60. Prior to his death, he donated the guns he used in the murders to the Museum of the Revolution in Moscow, [66] and left behind three valuable, though contradictory, accounts of the event. The murderers gained a lot of attention in this case. The author divides the burden of the fall of the empire equally amongst all the members. The putting of the Tsar and his family into an asylum was a serious conflict. It rose major political, geographical, and logistical issues at that time. That time was when Europe was already at war.
