The Seiko SNK805/807/809 is pretty basic, but it's still a great entry into the mechanical watch world. Grand Seiko is not a single piece or watch model; rather, it is a product line that can feature Zaratsu polishing, textured dials, Spring Drive movements, and an outrageously high level of craftsmanship. The Seiko 5 SNK805 is one of the best mechanical wristwatches in this price range. It has everything and more that you may want, expect and need in a timepiece in this price range. Field watches don’t have to be that water-resistant. They’re made for the outdoors, not for hitting the pool. The SNK805 can withstand 100 feet (30 meters) underwater. The Seiko SRPE33 and the turtle model, aka the Seiko SRPE39 both have outstanding features and dials to die for. Like many in the Save the Ocean series, these two divers sport unique dials that stand out in a crowded display case. The minute and hour hands both use the same lozenge shape. This looks good, but it is a bit counter-productive to have almost undistinguishable hands.

That’s not at all what we have here, and though I’ve passed over it on my watch searches many times, I can say now that I’d give it more than a second glance if I see it again. The case is made of stainless steel which is durable, sporty, and will last for a long time to come. Its case stretches 1.45 inches (37 mm)across. Weight-wise, it’s heavier than its counterpart. All surfaces and angles on the case, dial, hands, and indices must be flat and geometrically correct to optimally reflect light. The timepiece isn’t too big. These are super small watches, at least as far as modern men’s watches go. The case is 37mm x 11mm, so it won’t dominate a small wrist, if you have one. Although, anyone with a larger wrist might want to grab something a little bigger. It can be categorized as a field watch in terms of design. It features a streamlined shape and a distinct military aesthetic. This is further enhanced by the SNK805's green dial and strap. This model is also available in a variety of colors to suit everyone's preferences. Timex deserves a lot of credit for making the MK1 Mechanical because it answers a real ask from a lot of watch collectors. The fact that we have a cool, military-inspired, and manual wind watch for under €200 makes me realize that the watch world listens every so often.
