About this deal

Now I again asked God for help and started cutting( yes, I was very nervous!) As the blade was circular I did not go totally to the edge when two points were meeting as then it would cut into the shape. I used a jigsaw to finish cutting the meeting places. Fortunately for me, my mom-in-law asked if I could make a step ladder for her. I told her that I don't think I could make a strong step ladder as I did not know how. This chair which I saw on instructables kept flashing in my mind and as I had the balance plywood left from another of her projects ( which is still incomplete!) , I thought I'll use it, and if it comes right, I'll surprise her with it! Hey there Remodelaholics, Scott here from Saws on Skates. I love designing and building multi-function furniture. (Take a look at my DIY kitty litter cabinet and an outdoor coffee table with four hidden side tables.) My version of Benjamin Franklin’s ladder chair has an updated, modern look, but hints at his original design.

Build a DIY ladder chair — a folding step stool chair combination originally invented by Benjamin Franklin (sometimes called a Franklin chair or Franklin ladder). This clever step ladder chair combination is ideal for small spaces. Install the wood plugs with glue, and trim them flush with a flush-cut saw, a chisel or an oscillating tool after the glue dries. Sand the plugs smooth (see Figure 15). Figure 15: Install tapered wood plugs with glue to cover all of the screw heads, saw them flush and sand the surfaces smooth. Use scrap wood left over from the project to create plugs that blend into the surrounding wood. Thanks for the plans. Love them as they are straight forward and easy to follow. I’m in Australia but don’t follow the sizes. My daughter has asked me to make the chair.

Now go ahead and cut out the upper and lower sides. Use a jigsaw for the curved cuts (see Figure 4). Switch to a circular saw, guided by a straightedge, for making the straight cuts for best results. Or, guide your jigsaw against a straightedge instead. Figure 4: Once all of the inside cutouts are finished, trim the first upper and lower side to rough shape. Again, leave a little waste material next to the layout lines.

I clamped and slightly more than the required length. I then placed the rectangle again on the plywood and cut an exact copy. Now clamp both rectangles together and draw the pattern on to the board. I drilled through sections which would not be cut and screwed nails in to clamp the wood. Smooth all of the saw cuts up to the pattern lines using an oscillating spindle sander or sanding drums in a drill press. I adjusted the depth of the blade to 1/4"., placed the guide on the line and cut. then I placed the plank on the line and marked the width. Now cut the line marking the width. Now do some passes within the two lines and clear up the wood making your Dado ( I was super excited making my first Dado).

Adjust your T-bevel gauge to the angles of the dadoes on the first workpieces, and transfer these angles to the second set of workpieces. Draw layout lines for the dadoes. Set the slotted jig carefully into position over the spline dado so the dado reference lines are evenly spaced inside the jig’s slot.
