Theragun PRO® 5th Generation- Black - Boots

In this Theragun PRO 4th vs 5th generation review, we will compare the widely popular high-end device of market leader Therabody with its recently released successor. To allow you to personalize the treatment to your exact needs, six interchangeable head attachments are included with both versions. The Cone attachment was replaced in favour of the Micro-Point attachment. Other than that, the attachments for both models are as follows: Massage guns, also known as percussive therapy devices, help relax and soothe sore muscles, whether you’re an athlete or just hunching over a desk all day. Theraguns (made by Therabody) tend to be some of the most popular. We’ve tested and like the entire range, but they’re expensive. There are plenty of Theragun alternatives out there for hundreds of dollars less. In this guide, you’ll find a mix of both for all budgets—plus helpful information from a physical therapist and athletic trainer on how these devices can help our bodies. These are our favorite massage guns. The power of Theragun meets TheraMind, a new multi-sensory sound therapy experience in the Therabody App. Immerse yourself in the ultimate wellness routine with the only massage device to connect mind and body.

WIRED The Best Massage Guns (and Theraguns) - WIRED

The company says this massager uses Rhythm Therapy based on vibroacoustic science and offers a wider frequency range and lower amplitude than other massage guns. It claims this can " help nourish the body’s parasympathetic mode" to promote rest or increase energy, depending on which function you choose. I can't say if it was vibroacoustically soothing me to sleep, and its highest level isn't as powerful as others in this guide, but I liked using it for day-to-day needs. There's an app you can use for iPhones (Android is apparently on the way) to follow along with guided massage sessions. The Theragun Pro offers five pre-programmed speeds — 1750, 1900, 2100, 2200, or 2400 percussions per minute (ppm.) The speeds can change with the physical controls on the device, or further adjusted in the Therabody app. By pairing my Theragun Pro to the Therabody app, I could choose from several massage gun routines and sync my usage with Apple Health. Therabody claims this massage gun is 20% quieter. I measured an average range between 52 and 62 decibels, an improvement over the previous model's 77 decibels. All over massage — treat over 80% of your body without strain on the wrist, hands or arms using the rotating arm that has 4 unique positions and patented, ergonomic, Theragun triangle multi-grip design Both featuring the triangle ergonomic handle and an adjustable arm, you can hardly tell the two models apart. But what changes were made on the inside, and most importantly, do they make it worth it to invest in the fifth generation of the Theragun PRO over the previous version?

I used the Theragun Pro (Gen 5) every day for a week for this review, and the battery life is still holding strong at 30% down from 100%. The battery is rated for 150 minutes of use, though that may vary based on the ppm intensity. Sharper Image's Powerboost Pro+ is my favorite of the brand's several great massage guns. It uses heat, like the Gravity, but its temperature attachment also includes cold therapy, going from 38 degrees to 115 degrees. You can use this one for just the heat and cold, or with pulsations like any other percussive attachment. It has five other heads, and they're all made from a nice hard silicone. The Pro+ is one of the quieter models in this guide too. It gets louder as you increase the speed, but even then it's not blaring. It has a charging stand, which is convenient. You also want to consider the battery life of your massage gun, because there’s nothing worse than reaching for your device only to find its charge depleted. Premium models will typically last between 2–4 hours between charges.

Theragun Pro - Handheld Massage Gun - Bluetooth Enabled

I've always enjoyed the Pro lineup due to its adjustable head and triangle-shaped ergonomics, so I was happy to see these features maintained with the latest generation. I will say, though, that older models felt a little bulkier in the hand, both in size and weight. While the heavier-in-hand mass did promote this sense that the tool was one of quality and performance, it did make painting over my sore muscles a bit of a chore after extended training sessions. Massages are commonplace for professional athletes like runners, cyclists and basketball players, but for the rest of us, they’re still kind of a luxury. The good news is, there are tools you can buy to mimic a massage — and they’re easy to use. Now, you don’t have to book an appointment to get the sweet, relaxing taps similar to a Swedish massage parlor. All you have to do is grab your (charged) massage gun, select your head attachment and paint away your aches and pains. Connects to the Therabody app via Bluetooth for personalized routines and total control of your deviceI'm thoroughly impressed by the upgrades Therabody made to its flagship percussive therapy device. The quiet motor is more appealing and approachable, the profile itself is easier to maneuver than ever, and the usability is further enhanced by the new, more descriptive OLED screen. It appears massage guns have a new mold to create from, thanks to the all-new Gen5 Theragun Pro.

The new carrying case isn't as nice as what I've seen from other competitors—you can typically expect slots specifically for each attachment, but Therabody just has a separate soft case for the attachments so you have to carry two cloth cases. It's no dealbreaker, but you'd expect a nicer solution at this price. I suggest saving some cash and going with the fourth-generation Theragun Pro, which will net you nearly all the same benefits. However, if this is your first time getting a Theragun PRO, depending on the current price and promotion, you can consider the new 5th generation model instead and get access to the newest features available. I used the Theragun Pro (Gen 5) every day for a week for this review, and the battery life is still holding strong at 30% As we exercise and challenge our muscles, we cause breakdown within the muscle fibers, which in turn stimulates muscle growth and regrowth, hypertrophy (increased muscle size), and strength. Mechanical stimulation of a muscle [with a device like the Theragun] causes increased blood flow and the release of histamines to the stimulated area. What this does is allow the increased blood flow to decrease the inflammatory response, decrease muscle soreness, and break up knots in athletes' musculature." Plonksi has seen anecdotal evidence supporting the use of a Theragun-like device, and no apparent negative effects, but she recommends people always talk to a physician before trying a device. If you are an existing Theragun PRO (4th Gen) owner, the minor upgrades to the new 5th gen model do not really warrant buying it as these massage guns can be quite an investment. Okay, now to get into the meat of this head-to-head. After multiple rounds of recovery sessions and utilizing all available attachments, both the Theragun Pro and Hypervolt 2 Pro clearly showed why they’re some of the most popular massage guns on the market. We were easily able to hit any pained areas with little discomfort, although we did prefer the Theragun’s more ergonomic feel, as well as its adjustable head angle. We also tested both devices at their maximum speeds, and while Hypervolt holds the faster ppm at 2,700 — Theragun maxes at 2,400 — when you get to those sorts of numbers, it can be difficult to differentiate between the two. All the great things about the Theragun PRO (4th Gen) can still be found in the new 5th generation model. You can continue to get deep percussive therapy with Theragun’s 16 mm amplitude and a customisable speed range of 1,750 to 2,400 PPMs (percussion per minute). The PRO (5th Gen) also comes with 6 high-quality attachments like the 4th generation model, except the Cone attachment is now replaced with their all-new patented Micro-Point attachment. The Micro-Point is covered in flexible silicone spikes to provide increased stimulation throughout treatment. The weighted blanket brand we love also makes great massagers, as it turns out. This new little device is powerful. Even level one moves so fast it's hard to see. More and more devices are adding heat, as this one does. The metal attachment reaches 126 degrees Fahrenheit and is controlled by a button directly on it, rather than the main button on the handle. This means you can use it with or without pulsations, and even without it being attached to the device at all. The attachment needs to be charged separately, too: It has its own USB-C charging port, which I've never seen before (it comes with two chargers).
