The silicone drums are a real treat to play on and allow you to experience a more authentic feel with the portability and convenience of an e-drum kit. This is one of the most space-friendly drum sets I’ve reviewed, and more importantly one of the quieter options out there. What’s more, it’s upgradeable, meaning if at any point you did want to add features better suited to a more advanced drummer, you’d have the option, at a fraction of the price of buying a new drum kit. If you want to be unconventional, you can mix these up in whichever way you want, giving you the ultimate flexibility to craft your own signature sound.

A compact and affordable e-kit setup with some surprise features
The DTX-PROX module is the pièce de résistance. Providing a player with 70 fantastic preset kits to choose from and with space for up to 200 more user kits onboard, there's a huge amount of scope to customise and tweak all of your sounds and settings to fit you. Those kits are made up of over 400 samples, but again, you can add many more of your own. There's even a range of effects onboard, including ambience and compression, which can help to realise your drum tones and give them a breath of fresh air. Although the trigger settings needed a little bit of tweaking out of the box - and we needed to refer to the manual for this - it made our playing sound better, but also helped us understand the guts of the module in more depth. TOP TIP: You can play music directly from your laptop through the drum kit and into your headphones – you’ll need an additional cable, though there’s no need to do this to get started. The sounds on the Roland TD-1K give the Yamaha DTX402K a run for their money. They pad response is impressive with some nice triggering built into each drum. Part Mute: This training mode allows the drummer to train by muting any of the desired drum parts or accompanying parts that are usually heard during drum performances. The number keys on the module are used to select the drum part and tones to be muted. And if you’re ever feeling like some new sounds for your kit, ATV has its own regularly-updated “Sound Store” where you can buy new samples and drum kits so no matter how long you’ve owned the kit, you can keep your playing experience fresh. What you get with the ATV aDrums Artist Standard Kit Cutting-edge hi-hat response – While some kits may leave you disappointed with lag or inaccuracy, the ATV aDrums Artist Standard Kit’s optical sensors mean every little thing you do to your hi-hat gets registered and played the way you intended it to as if you were hitting a real hi-hat.This feature, usually found only on more expensive e-drums, will allow you to sound far more authentic.
