About this deal

The above circuit diagram shows the circuit along with all the calculated values for our required operation. Working of 12V to 5V Circuit Circuit 4 is a three terminal regulator (IN-COM-OUT). This could represent a dedicated IC (such as a 7805) or a discrete circuit built from op amps / transistors etc. The LT1173 is a versatile micropower DC-DC converter. The device requires only three external components to deliver a fixed output of 5V or 12V. Supply voltage ranges from 2.0V to 12V in step-up mode and to 30V in step-down mode. The LT1173 functions equally well in step-up, step-down or inverting applications. E.g., in an LM2596-based adjustable DC-DC converter, it was “forgotten” to install a capacitor between the output and sense-input (thereby multiplying the output ripple with a factor related to the difference between output voltage and sense-voltage of 1.23V(Cff in LM2596 datasheet: https://www.onsemi.com/pub/Collateral/LM2596-D.PDF). However, adding a 15nF capacitor did not solve all of the ripple (I would consider a ripple up to 100mV acceptable).

Of course, you may struggle to prove this is the case, leaving you without a device or a power supply converter. The Drok 12V to 5V converter uses open wires that can be temporarily attached to a 12V supply and a 5V device. Of course, you can also solder them into a circuit to establish a more permanent connection. The Drok converter accepts input voltages of 12 and 9, it then converts them into 5 volts. If this isn’t an option then you should take a look at social media and online forums. There are plenty of people online willing to share their experiences. This can help you to make the right decision regarding the best 12V to 5V converter. It works, BUT the device (or circuit) has to dissipate more power than is supplied to the load. It is even more inefficient than circuits 1 and 2, because the extra electronics take additional current. On the other hand, it would survive a short circuit and so is an improvement on circuits 2 and 3. It also limits the maximum current that would be taken under short circuit conditions, protecting the 12v source. The power supply for the test was providing 12V, but due to the voltage drop in the ammeter, the input voltage of the modules is a bit lower. Results

The LT1173 consumes just 110µA supply current at standby, making it ideal for applications where low quiescent current is important. The device can deliver 5V at 80mA from a 3V input in step-up mode or 5V at 200mA from a 12V input in step-down mode. The transformer IC 7805 is part of the LM78xx series of DC converter ICs. It is a linear step-down transformer IC. The digits ‘xx ‘ represents the value of the regulated o/p in volts. The IC7805 gives 5V DC as the digit ‘xx ‘ showing (05) which is 5 volts. The output will be constant at 5 Volts for all value of the input in 6.5volts to 35 volts. ( refer to datasheet) However, in the real world, this is not always the case. Instead of knowing the supplier and manufacturer, you need to discuss them with your family and friends. They may have personal experience that can be beneficial to you. All the circuits have different performance. The voltage divider circuit is not recommended for use in the high current application as it has a low output current and lower efficiency. LM7805 12v to 5v converter: Efficiency differences between modules become more subtle as load increases: 2x for 50mA and 1.5x for 100mA.Higher switching frequency will mean less ripple on the output (more accurate voltage/current) but causes more overhead due to switching, which reduces the efficiency a bit. This is a very common circuit of zener diode as a voltage regulator circuit. You can regulate o/p voltage according to the application by changing diode and the series resistor (Rs).
