About this deal

Updated Catch Cup- The catch cup is slightly bigger, given the larger hopper capacity. It is also now easier to pour out coffee grounds. This grinder is a tad messier than others in its class. It seems to be prone to static, which leads to bits of chaff floating about or collecting where you don’t want them. For an easy solution, try the Ross Droplet Technique ( 1). After getting comfortable with the machine and running through a couple pounds of beans for a good season, I did some Fellow Ode cuppings vs my Comandante. I tested primarily with lighter to medium roasts. The Comandante brews have more flavor but also more acidity; currently I'm enjoying the balance of clarity and flavor in the Ode+SSP brews the most. Its giving me a flavorful cup that's got acidity without being too sour, along with prominent and enjoyable flavors of fruit/nut/chocolate. If I throw a little cream (it tastes good, sue me) into a good South American coffee it's almost like I'm drinking a hot chocolate.

Burrs: The Ode Gen 2 comes with the Ode Gen 2 burrs installed. The Gen 2 burrs have increased extraction from light-roasted coffees. the grind range is from 250 microns and higher. The Gen 1 burrs are 550 microns and higher.

A larger catch cup that can hold 100g of ground coffee, enough for 12 cups of brewed coffee at the golden ratio. To solve this, add one or two drops of water to your bean, but it comes at the cost of reduced coffee retention, making you enjoy a well-grinded and nutritious coffee This grinder isn’t just the newest addition to the Fellow Family but also the sleekest. It is a beautifully modeled powerhouse that is built on a pedestal. With the widespread popularity of Ode Brew Grinder, there’s so much to look out for in this grinder. The Fellow Ode is remarkably easy to use. It has an on/off switch and a large stepped dial on the front with 31 settings ranging from fine to coarse. Grinding is as simple as weighing out your beans, selecting your desired grind size on the dial, and pushing the start button. The Fellow Ode is well designed to be durable and compact. However, it has not stood the test of time. But given that Fellow is reputable for producing high-quality products, we expect nothing less of the Fellow Ode Grinder.

Note: r/coffee would not let me post there. He doesn't believe r/coffee should be a place to discuss coffee. Since this review does cross over into the grinder's application for espresso I figured I would comment here. Although this post clearly fits under their sidebar as stated: AUTO ATOP Ode knows exactly when the last bean has been ground and automatically shuts itself off. Product Specification Dimensions When it comes to operations, there are some quirks and a couple learning curves, but overall I've been pleased and found it to be a pretty smooth experience. Here's some of the most common quirks or issues that I have noticed, or read about online:Improved Hopper- The hopper has also been redesigned with steeper feed angles to allow the beans to slide easily into the chute for grinding. While I initially hadn't really thought I was going to be able to produce the fine grind needed for espresso, it's become very apparent it is definitely possible though with two main caveats. The first being it is still a step grinder, and it's going to be more difficult to dial it in the the perfect grind size for espresso. I have no doubt that you'd be able to produce some great shots with a halfway decent espresso machine, though a dedicated espresso grinder is almost always going to perform better. The second caveat is that even though the burrs can produce an espresso grind, there's no real way of knowing how the motor will hold up. While I wouldn't want to use the Ode to grind espresso shots daily, I believe it'll work great for the occasional espresso. You can watch Steven from Home Grounds compare the Fellow Ode to other grinders at various price points in this fun video: Grinding Capability – 3.5/5 SINGLE DOES LOADING Grind what you need right before you brew. Fellow chopped off the space-hogging hopper to limit your beans’ exposure to staleness-inducing oxygen.

The Gen 2 Brew Burrs grind finer and with more precision. The broader grind range is exceptional for every brew method except espresso. With new anti-static technology for less grind mess, a redesigned load bin for smoother bean feeding, and an expanded 100-gram catch cup for batch brews, the next generation of grinding is here. I want to leave my grinder on the counter, and most of them are eyesores. I really hated looking at my Vario every day. It is ugly, simple fact. For some people, this isn't a concern. However just like people take looks into consideration when purchasing kitchen countertops, a car, or other appliances, I want my stuff to be appealing to look at; especially if it is sitting on my counter 365 days a year. Trusted Source Coffee | The Nutrition Source | Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Coffee lovers around the world who reach for their favorite morning brew probably aren’t thinking about its health benefits or risks. As we stated earlier, the Fellow Ode brew grinder was designed for manual brewing methods- and it does an excellent job at what it is intended to do. It is not designed for espresso and so does not grind fine enough for that. From the eye test, the stainless steel burrs are of high quality and designed to last. The grinder is also flexibly designed for ease of cleaning and repairs in case it gets faulty. Ease of Use To fill the Fellow Ode Grinder with coffee beans, simply lift the lid and add the amount you need. The Gen 2 burrs seem to deal well with a range of roast levels, producing a balanced flavor profile. The cups are sweet and balanced with a heavier body and medium clarity.
