About this deal

In The Flopsy Bunnies, Benjamin Bunny (son of Old Mr. Bunny) and Peter Rabbit are adults, and Benjamin has married his cousin Flopsy (one of Peter's sisters). As for Peter, Mopsy, and Cotton-Tail, they haven't been married yet and still live with their mother (Mrs. Josephine Rabbit). (However, Peter becomes an uncle and his sisters --Mopsy and Cotton-Tail-- are aunts.) The couple (as Benjamin had become a father) are the parents of six young rabbits generally called The Flopsy Bunnies. Benjamin and Flopsy are "very improvident and cheerful" and have some difficulty feeding their brood. At times, they turn to Peter Rabbit (who has gone into business as a florist and keeps a nursery garden), but there are days when Peter cannot spare cabbages. [note 1] [11] [12] It is then that the Flopsy Bunnies cross the field to Mr. McGregor's rubbish heap of rotten vegetables. Halifax axes paper statements for online banking customers due to 'issues' with sending physical copies Aston Martin to sell fewer cars as production issues weigh on 'exceptional demand' for DB12 sports car To put the figures in context, the original 2016 Peter Rabbit 50p was minted 9.6million times, while the one released a year later had a circulation of a massive 19.3million. Judy Taylor, author of several books about Potter and her works, observes that Potter had difficulty drawing the human form, and, as a result of her limitations, restricted depictions of Mr. McGregor in The Flopsy Bunnies to his hands and feet. Any awkwardness in their depictions was minimized by presenting his hands and feet in isolation and from the bunnies' point of view. In the few full-length illustrations of Mr. McGregor, the need to depict his face was eliminated by presenting him in the middle or far distance and from the rear. [19] Edward Lear's picture of seven guinea pigs beneath a lettuce from The History of the Seven Families of Lake Pipple-popple possibly inspired a similar illustration in The Flopsy Bunnies. [20]When the cupboard is bare at the Flopsy Bunny's burrow, the family all have to go in search of food. They soon find some old lettuces on Mr. McGregor's rubbish heap, but who can imagine the horrors that await them as they enjoy a nap after lunch! Born into a wealthy household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets, and through holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developed a love of landscape, flora, and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted. Because she was a woman, her parents discouraged intellectual development, but her study and paintings of fungi led her to be widely respected in the field of mycology. In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and became secretly engaged to her publisher, Norman Warne, causing a breach with her parents, who disapproved of his social status. Warne died before the wedding. When Benjamin Bunny grew up, he married his Cousin Flopsy. They had a large family, and they were very improvident and cheerful. Flopsy and Peter don't seem to have a very close relationship with each other, mostly due to the fact that Peter loves to go on an adventure with his friends and Flopsy likes to hang around her twin sister, Mopsy. Although she does seem to care about him whenever he is in trouble and she worries about him. Peter can be protective of her whenever she is in danger.

Finish your collection by adding to a series of the Royal Mint coins that were first minted in 2016 to celebrate Beatrix Potter’s 150th birthday. Since the series was so popular, it continued for a few more years including the 2018 coins of which this one is the only official UK coin featuring Flopsy Bunny. Is the Flopsy Bunny 50p Coin Rare? Lear, Linda (2007). Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature. New York: St. Martins Griffin. ISBN 978-0-312-37796-0. Beatrix Potter, Flopsy Bunnies, a drawing in pen and ink with watercolour". British Museum. Archived from the original on 18 October 2015.The ensuing adventure is very exciting, as we follow the distress of Flopsy (wondering where all her little bunnies have disappeared to), the clever contrivances of Benjamin and Thomasina, the glee of Mr. McGregor, followed by a scolding by his wife, who had ambitious but nasty plans on what to use the rabbits for, and accused her husband of having "done it a purpose". It ends with a very crestfallen Mr. McGregor, and a cute little codicil, about how the Flopsy Bunnies rewarded Thomasina Tittlemouse. Meanwhile, a 50p featuring the feline Tom Kitten, part of the 2017 set, which was supposedly selling for hundreds of pounds online, had a mintage of 9.3million. Both Flopsy Bunny and the latest iteration of the Peter Rabbit 50p - this time showing the character munching on carrots and radishes - were minted just 1.4million times. Given the Mint's announcement of the mintage of the four 2018 50p coins, and thus confirmation Flopsy Bunny and Peter Rabbit are pretty rare, is a fairly recent one, it might be a little while before the news filters through and affects the value of either of the coins. Emma Noble had worked at the Royal Mint for 20 years before she was chosen to design the Beatrix Potter series of coins. She had previously worked on pieces commemorating the Diamond Jubilee and Remembrance Sunday. Who Was Beatrix Potter?

The Tale of The Flopsy Bunnies has all the classic hallmarks of one of the best Beatrix Potter stories. It is a timeless story of danger and friendship. Little children will hug themselves, first with fear as the rabbits are in danger of their lives, and then with glee as Mr. McGregor is outwitted. The pictures beautifully illustrate how all the animals watch as their plan goes into action. The reverse features an image of Flopsy Bunny wearing her cape. The bunny is the focal point with the word FLOPSY slightly curved appearing off to the upper left of the bunny, and the word BUNNY off to the upper right. Look closely at the bottom of the cape, and you will see the initials EN which is those of the designer. But next Christmas Thomasina Tittlemouse got a present of enough rabbit wool to make herself a cloak and a hood, and a handsome muff and a pair of warm mittens. By the age of 14, she had started a journal, written in code, to record her thoughts, ideas and sketches and kept it up until the age of 30. Her early sketches included detailed images of her pets and other animals. Her father, a talented amateur photographer, had friendships within the London art world including the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais (1829–1896), whose family would holiday with the Potters in Perthshire, Scotland. Millais recognised Potter's talent, telling her: 'Plenty of people can draw, but you have observation.' With the encouragement of her father, Potter went on to study at the National Art Training School in London (now the Royal College of Art).DuBay, Debbie; Sewall, Kara (2006). I remember my Mum and Dad reading the stories to me before bedtime, and when I became a more confident reader I would sit and read the books for hours, admiring the beautiful illustrations. In fact, sometimes I just looked at the pictures because I loved them so much. Beatrix Potter was born and raised in London, the eldest child of parents who had both inherited Lancashire cotton fortunes. Her father Rupert, a qualified barrister, married her mother Helen in 1863. They left their family roots in the industrial Midlands to live in a large house in the exclusive area of South Kensington, London. It was here, at number two Bolton Gardens, that Beatrix Potter was born in July 1866 and raised in an affluent Victorian household complete with maids, cooks, butlers and nursemaids. Benjamin Bunny and Thomasina Tittlemouse heard her. They had hidden when they saw Mr McGregor and had seen everything.

In 1903, following the success of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, came The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, a story about a red squirrel's narrow escape from an owl called Old Brown. During a great period of creativity, fourteen more tales followed in just seven years. Mrs Flopsy Bunny had brushed and combed the little rabbits so often that she had collected enough fur to make a little mouse cloak and a warm pair of pretty mittens. Potter asserted her tales would one day be nursery classics, and part of the process in making them so was marketing strategy. [30] She was the first to exploit the commercial possibilities of her characters and tales with spinoffs such as a Peter Rabbit doll, an unpublished Peter Rabbit board game, and Peter Rabbit nursery wallpaper between 1903 and 1905. [31] Similar "side-shows" (as she termed the ancillary merchandise) were produced with her approval over the following two decades. [32] As top accounts disappear, is this the last chance to bag a one year fixed-rate savings deal paying more than 6%? Oh calamity! These six little rabbits are destined for the pot! How they eventually escape, is down to a new character, brave little Thomasina Tittlemouse, a woodmouse with a long tail (and very sharp teeth). Mrs. Tittlemouse is herself honoured, featuring as the central character in a book the following year.
