What is the word for a manga you know you should be enjoying a lot more than you actually are? There should be one, just so I can use it to describe this series, which means well and just doesn’t do it for me enough of the time. Despite her best efforts, Anzu’s harem keeps growing at an alarming rate. Practically at the same rate that her personal space dwindles around her, coincidentally. And despite her other best efforts, she might be starting to like the changes to her life. And, despite Riri’s “best” efforts, love could be in the air… Surprisingly, Riri was quite the fun character in this volume! In no way have I liked the imp in this series, but there were some funny shenanigans between the imp and Anzu that did make this volume a little more exciting than the beginning led me to believe. I noticed I sort of skimmed over his parts because I just didn't care for his actions or general attitude, no matter how hard he "changed" to get to know Anzu by the end. If I wanted to see more of a "new character," then please give us more Junta as I genuinely like his character. I can honestly say that he fits a lot of the cliche childhood friend tropes, but rather than it being "annoying," it's enduring.

But more than that and more than this just being reverse harem which can also be draining at times - its just hysterical. Obviously she is going to fall in love with one of the guys (though I am rooting for the girl friend), you can tell she really has zero interest and not just being "I'm not like other girls". She's genuinely hilarious, sweet and overall just a phenomenal character. And the boys are phenomenal too - and although I do still have a favorite, I couldn't tell you who she ends up with. Largely that's because from a certain, possibly overthought, perspective, what Riri is doing is explicitly forcing Anzu into a situation she neither wants nor is comfortable with. Add to that the fact that the little imp makes it clear that he doesn't give a damn about whether she's anywhere on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, and it's a premise that can be a little uncomfortable. We don't all find hot guys sexually appealing. I guess I just don’t see a strong narrative leading us to any sort of definitive conclusion. Riri makes a point about their meddling helping Anzu have good times she might otherwise never have had, regardless of the romance angle, which, as a perspective, is coming in a bit late in the game. I'm buying this in every possible format that I can and am going to fervently press it into the hand of every customer in my store while I sing its praises, stars. I'm not sure how to start off this review because Romantic Killer has definitely been a different kind of "shojo" and didn't know what to expect going into this one...

That encounter also introduces the school prince, who has all the money and none of the charm such a title implies. His methods of getting close to Anzu are hopelessly ineffectual, since Anzu is exactly that amazing a character, but they mine some great comedy from it (tsundere’s are gonna tsundere).

What's It About? When gamer Anzu gets transported to a world of hot guys, it's like she's in a dream…someone else's dream! (from Viz) Or, you know, not. Unlike some other series I’ve read, this one is shaping up to pull into the station with an outcome I won’t dislike either way it plays out. Which is no mean feat considering my issues with the first volume. Overall, I feel my review is harsh even though I didn't intend it to be. While I'm full of biases for a ship I want to see sail, I would be curious enough to try the third volume just so I can see more of Kazuki and Anzu together, whether in a "romantic" way because of the imp's doing or just them chilling at the house with their everyday shenanigans.

Fav scene of this was the panty thief, I love how absolutely FIERCE Anzu can be. I must have re-read it five times when I first came to it. (I have since re-read the book itself at least as many times. It just makes me so happy, siiiigh.)
