Based in Berlin, Belsazar are throwing out the old-school vermouth rule book – and we love them for it.

Warm, fruity floral notes touching on mirabelle, apricot and chomomile, which contrasts with the characteristic dry finish on the palate. Two friends, Max and Sebastian, the founders of Belsazar, shared a burning passion for regional wines from Baden, marvellous distilleries and exceptional recipes, along with a shared creativity nurtured on the streets of Berlin.Deeply herbaceous with impressive acidity and a rounded mouthfeel; do it justice and savour over ice. Many vermouths come from Italy, but Belsazar is made in the Black Forest, Germany, using quality wines from the South Baden region. THE SCHLADERER DISTILLERY HAS BEEN PRODUCING FRUIT BRANDIES USING ONLY NATURAL INGREDIENTS SINCE 1844. Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ.

Despite the daunting name (it comes from a comedy sketch, not an Italian meal) the drink could not be easier to make, and that’s the whole point; when you serve Spagetts, no one will ever accuse you of trying too hard. Distilled in London, this is an excellent example of a modern sweet vermouth – perhaps unsurprising, given the number of awards its racked up in recent years. Pink grapefruit, orange blossom, bitter orange, raspberries and currants put the flavor accents and show impressively that summer fruit acid and the vermouth is a typical bittersweet note which is fresh and vibrant. This is the Mexican beer version of a bloody mary, with no vodka and the tomato juice replaced with beer. Then fill the empty neck of the bottle with Aperol and a squeeze of lemon juice, or even just a pushed-in lemon wedge.Until the 17th century the tradition in this country to produce wine, spices and herbs wormwood enough. Ripe cherries and bitter orange dance with dark chocolate and embrace the subtle sweetness of agave syrup. A club chair, old leather and conversation layered with meaning – some situations require a drink that everybody can imbibe. The Rosé is packed with pink grapefruit, raspberry and zesty orange notes with a pleasingly bitter finish - sure to make a splendid cocktail ingredient.
