We recommend shocking your hot tub before first use, anytime the water is replaced, after periods of heavy use, at signs of slime or algae or after a loss of clarity or water quality. Or, remove the cover from the hot tub to allow evaporation of the chemical (keep the spa filter running constantly). If you are going away we would suggest emptying the pool and cleaning it so the water is not left to go stagnant. After testing the PH with your dip test strips you can use the following chemicals to increase or decrease the PH. The middle reading of 7 is neutral, so pool water with a pH below 7 is acidic and pool water with a pH above 7 is alkaline.
