About this deal

It doesn't quite compete with some of the best we've heard from the format or offer a massive jump over its DTS-HD MA predecessor, but it is nonetheless highly enjoyable and satisfying, providing several noteworthy enhancements. Blu-ray screenshot comparisons visually but instead this time I’ll just include them as a link HERE. The Shark is Still Working: The Impact and Legacy of Jaws – 10 featurettes running at 1 hour 40 minutes.

The soundtrack to Jaws is better ever before, bringing a theater-like experience especially with surround sound speaker systems and a subwoofer to reach the deepest notes of John Williams’ powerful score. I mean, you get two feature-length documentaries about the making of the film and one that’s a retrospective. There’s a little bit of fall-off from the lens in the top and bottom areas in some shots (notably shots from the bow of the boat where Hooper is at the helm), and in some of the wider focus shots we find less sharpness.

As good as these extras are (and they’re pretty great, especially for their day), one could still wish for something new. And Roy Scheider's police chief Brody is just as unforgettable, a city outsider forced to confront his fear of water. Universal Studios Home Entertainment brings Steven Spielberg's Jawsto 4K Ultra HD as a two-disc combo pack dubbed the "45th Anniversary Limited Edition. The collection features exclusive artwork from Vice Press plus unique premiums, housed in innovative numbered packaging. Of course, the film overcomes much of the plot's B-level sentimentality by populating it with a great assortment of characters portrayed by an excellent cast of actors.

The native 4K image has been treated with respect throughout, bringing out the very best the image has to offer. As an avid fan of the film, I’ve seen it in nearly every format from VHS to LaserDisc to DVD to Blu-ray and now 4K. When a seaside community finds itself under attack by a great white shark, three men embark on a quest to kill it before it strikes again. There is a definite improvement in the video when Hooper goes underwater in an attempt to inject the shark with Strychnine. Effects are well catered for and the surrounds hold a lot of ambience, be it waves lapping or fires crackling. Starring Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, and Robert Shaw, Jawsis the film which has left a permanent mark on the history of cinema, remaining one of the most effective horror thrillers ever made, it changed the motion picture industry forever. Colouring is amazing, there is a rich vividness that really pops, the blue skies are like looking out of a window on a sunny day, the red of the blood, the green of the grasses; must be one of the best uses of HDR and WCG I’ve seen. On his way to close the beaches, the Mayor “Vaughn” ( Murray Hamilton) manages to catch up with Brody and tries to discourage him from doing so.

So, it’s nice to see that the original Mono sound mix included — even if it isn’t in a lossless sound format. It is one very nice upgrade and worth making the jump from DVD or Blu-ray to a great 4K presentation of the original 2012 restoration — in all of its glory. Kong beat away the competition to remain on top of both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. Digitally there are no issues, the original source is immaculate while the grain is held well to give a perfect film screening; occasionally the grain becomes a tad heavy, as was always the case in darker scenes, but this just adds to the quality. He, together with the Chief and Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), an academic from the Oceanographic Institute, head out in the ultimate battle of man versus nature.VISION : Sony A90J OLED 65"- ISF Calibrated SOUND : Marantz 7015 | XTZ Spirit Speakers | Sub: XTZ 10. I’m going to assume that 99% of everyone reading this review has seen the film or at least knows the general plot. It’s with that that an eccentric town fisherman “Quint” ( Robert Shaw) decides to offer up his services of finding and killing the real shark that’s responsible for the killings. dba Freestar (“Freestar”) for the purposes of placing certain advertising on the site, and Freestar will collect and use certain data for advertising purposes. Lastly, it’s certainly with noting that Gotltlieb also wrote the book “The Jaws Log” (1975) about the making of the film itself.

Universal’s 4K offering ups the ante, and yes it was possible, with upgraded video and audio in a nice little package. No doubt that this movie is a jewel in Universal’s crown, so I wouldn’t expect this kind of effort for every title out there, but it’s so nice to see this look the way it does.Naturally, the native 4K transfer still shows a few age-related issues, like a couple soft scenes here and there, but on the whole, the 2160p picture displays sharper, more distinct definition in the hair and clothing of the cast, revealing the tiny wrinkles and pores in the faces of actors. This is another testament to the restoration of this film and I’ve simply never heard it sound more amazing than it does here. On 4k Blu-ray, there are details that may not have been visible before, like seagulls flying through the frame or a subtle glisten on the lips of Brody while he’s skimming through shark books. And to this day, it remains one of the greatest, most effective suspense films ever made, delivering the sort of terrifying, visceral punch we expect from movies but rarely attain.
