The details in this one are just stunning and you can also see the way they did shadows and showed various bits of the mushrooms. A quaint little book that would make a wonderful gift for a friend or family member who enjoys the outdoors / foraging. You will find almost nothing but exquisitely drawn (some coloured) and highly detailed illustrations of the plant with brief captions. The ones that I admired most of all were the full-color illustrations of mushrooms that were painted using shimmery reds and natural hues. Mushroom Botanical Art by Toshimitsu Fukiharu has beautiful illustrations throughout the entire book.The fungi is commonly known as thev erdigris agaric, is a medium-sized green, slimywoodlandmushroom, found on lawns, mulch, and woodland from spring to autumn. It was a great collection of artwork from a bygone era that had to rely on these talented artists to record their scientific findings. This has led to a new Somerset House show, Mushrooms: The Art, Design and Future of Fungi (30 January to 26 April), a 130-year cultural history featuring artists and designers including Cy Twombly, Carsten Höller, Beatrix Potter, Tom Dixon and Takashi Murakami. Frenchman Pierre Jean François Turpin was a self-taught artist from the Napoleonic era who is considered to be one of the greatest botanical illustrators.

The illustrations are gorgeous and the introductions to each section were beautifully well written and concise. The international perspective is a particularly remarkable feature, connecting to significant art-historical touchstones that had wide-reaching impacts on visual culture to the present day.This collection of fungi illustrations is from the 1908 edition of “ The Americana; a universal reference library, comprising the arts and sciences, literature, history, biography, geography, commerce, etc. A book like this is making headway at just the right time, because mushrooms and botanical drawings have never been trendier.

However, before these advances in technology, it was artists and illustrators who were depended on to share the beauty of botany with the world.
