About this deal

Her mood fluctuates with the company (or lack thereof), the weather and, of course, the availability/quality of food. Following Cloake's journey across France on a bike made me so very happy I was NOT riding across France on a bike, but her descriptions of the food and culture and landscape were so delightful! but I learned that Tyson Foods employs 200 chaplains for their meat facilities, and that there are Nascar Chaplains. Here Cloake goes light on general history (thankfully) and the amount of discussion of regional differences in cooking seem just right.

Leaving them in may seem like the height of laziness, but in fact it adds to the fruit’s flavour, as well as making life considerably easier for the cook.as he passes, she casually reaches down for some water, smiling broadly in the manner of someone having almost toomuch fun. Still, what a fun window into a journey like this, with some fascinating history and a couple of laugh out loud moments. Felicity tries the crème de la crème of French dishes, truly, from cassoulet to clafoutis to tarte Tatin and the world's biggest oyster.

Needless to say, this – and the raw fish that followed – blew my tiny mind, just as the accompanying wasabi blew my sinuses. Bake for about 2 hours, keeping an eye on it – once a crust has formed, stir this back into the cassoulet, repeating as necessary. If you’re missing travel as much as I am, you’ll no doubt be looking for ways to travel from home and, while technology is fantastic and there are SO many fabulous ways to travel virtually these days, there’s still nothing quite like a good book, right? At the start, though when I saw she names her bike “Eddy” (after Eddy Merckx, a pastry loving Tour de France great) and talks about getting kitted out to look the part even if she isn’t a serious cyclist, I knew this was the “cycling memoir” for me! An evocative, infectious, and at times utterly hilariousadventure that will make every food lover, and even themost lapsed of cyclists, want to jump on their bike, and on a ferry to France, immediately. In fact this book is many things – a diary, an autobiography, a cook book and travel guide all in one. I applaud the author's bravery at taking on this epic trip, both from a cycling point of view and a culinary one. I loved the inclusion of the poetry (poetry + comics = love) and it’s just a nice Hellboy adventure.

Grease the bottom of the casserole with a little of the duck fat mix, then tip in the beans, the rest of the duck fat and all the meat, plus any jelly from the duck confit. This short came out a couple of months ago, but since I'm revisiting stuff for National Bike Month, I thought I'd share it here. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). At times though the trip element felt a bit “samey” and I think I was hoping for more about cycling in France.A green bike drunkenly weaves its way up a cratered hill in the late-morning sun, the gears grinding painfully, like a pepper mill running on empty. Having lived in France (Marseille where she is ill-advised by friends) and tried to track down meals and recipes myself I am in awe of the amazing job Felicity Cloake does in selecting fascinating dishes, tracking them down and eating them on our behalf. And France is a country whose roads, so straight and smooth and quiet, seem designed for cycling, and whose hearty provincial cooking, whether that’s Moules Frites or Boeuf Bourguignon, makes the perfect fuel for it.
