For those of us who are in school and carrying a lot of books or those of us who naturally have many items they must carry, this should not be a problem. She needs a backpack that is strong enough and large enough to hold everything that she needs for a day’s worth of classes, including textbooks. It has a large capacity–somewhat large for a daypack, it’s light, it’s durable, and it can stand up to anything a normal backpack would face. It needs to have a protected compartment for her laptop, a cubbyhole for her phone, and spots for her water bottle and a small umbrella.One feature I hate on many backpacks, even Ful or Swiss Gear backpacks, is the floppy, limp handle that they often use.

Blinker light attachments: I currently live too far from my office to comfortably commute on my bike, but for those of us who do commute by bike, this is a welcome feature so you’re not stuck placing a blinker on a point that was not designed to hold one. Keeping you comfortable is Osprey's well designed and widely used trampoline suspended mesh backsystem which pushes the weight away from your back, keeping a large space between your pack and the pack for unrivalled airflow. It’s a quick-grab pocket that’s lined with a softer material than what you’ll find on the outside of the bag, making it a convenient spot to stash your phone or sunglasses without having to worry about scratches. It’s so refreshing in these times of “reviews” that are written by people who just googled the specs of the products instead of actually using them.

The Tropos 32 is an intelligent commuting pack with enough features to get you from A to B in style and comfort. The Nebula and the Tropos have well-designed compartments that fit 17-inch laptops and iPads or other screen devices. On the bright side, the laptop compartment is large and can easily hold a 17-inch laptop along with cables, a mouse, a power brick, and so on.

With its many storage pockets and convenient laptop compartment design, it’ll carry all your things effortlessly. As such, the pack itself does not extend much lengthwise making my backpack occasionally fall over when it’s sitting on the ground. I have used the same pack for the last year in medical school, but I also bought it with the intention of using it as a personal luggage item for travel and as a day pack for hiking – and it has excelled in all three areas. There is a dedicated laptop compartment—which we’ll talk about next—but this sleeve is helpful for when you want to carry both your laptop and a hydration bladder at the same time. The only thing missing for you to fully utilize this feature is a strap to hang the reservoir from so you run the risk of your reservoir collapsing and making it difficult to drink from.
