The concept is great and it at least remains intriguing to the last, creating anticipation for each new chapter.

While Pandora got off to a bit of a slow start, the tension and the atmosphere in this book were absolutely fantastic. Ongoing reading assessments will establish which level children are reading at and whether they need to move up to the next level to maintain the right level of challenge. Hezekiah’s obsession with the object and strange sounds coming from behind the locked door of the basement fuel Dora’s curiosity and she manages to trick her uncle and enter the basement and is fascinated by what she sees. As a result of the move away from NC levels, the book bands originally outlined by the UK Reading Recovery National Network and its authors for KS1 only, have extended to meet demands by a great many schools for further levels including up to the end of KS2.Susan Stokes-Chapman’s atmospheric debut, PANDORA, immerses the reader in the dangerous, mysterious world of ancient antiquities with prose that is elegant and teeming with visceral sensory detail.

This was a quick read and enjoyable as a whole, but the ending felt very rushed and a little unpolished. Pandora is a narrator rather than a hero, observing with a cruel eye for detail that seeps into other characters’ narration, too – one London lane “teems like maggots in an open sore”, and the book is filled with people described as “fleshy” or with “too many chins”, or followed by the smell of rotting meat. We meet with publishers and read a vast number of children’s books which we; assess for interest level, reading level, quality of writing and production, and age-appropriate content. With each book we are asking would a child reading at that level be able to access this text and what would their challenges be, the answers to these questions are unique to each book. I got intrigued by each of the characters’ own secrets and the big mysteries which made me turn the pages a little faster.

Big Cat Phonics for Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised books and resources support the DfE Validated Little Wandle Systematic Synthetic Phonics Teaching Programme that has been developed in collaboration with two English Hubs, Wandle L Intrigued by her uncle’s peculiar behavior, Dora turns to young, ambitious antiquarian scholar Edward Lawrence who eagerly agrees to help. The book bands Lime to Black build on these original levels, offering readers incremental steps in text level and meeting the needs of readers throughout KS2.

Some of the scene setting was very strong and a couple of the characters were quite intriguing, but the plot was painfully slow moving and besides a couple of vaguely interesting scenes, I didn’t feel like anything of note happened. It’s a book that I can see myself reading again, and one that I look forward to adding to my physical collection someday. I’m incredibly glad that I did, because this story was incredible, and I actually don’t know that I would have enjoyed it quite so much in any other format. Niestety zakończenie nie dało mi 100% satysfakcji, bo było lekko przyspieszone a główni bohaterowie osiągnęli to, co chcieli bez zbyt dużego wysiłku.Using banded 'real' books, children are able to choose books freely from within a structured range of books making reading more independent and enjoyable.
