After a Happy Valley interval, where Sarah Lancashire's Catherine Cawood's dialogue soundtracks an outfit change, Self Esteem offers up an exciting glance at what's to come. Eventually Taylor bit the bullet, partly spurred on by RuPaul’s Drag Race, which she describes as “my religion.

This is my day in the sun’ … Self Esteem talking to Alexis Petridis at Glastonbury festival’s William’s Green stage. For all her palpable excitement about the future, Taylor still experiences some self-doubt about the frankness she deals in. Musical supervision is by Jennifer Whyte and musical direction is by Ben Ferguson with lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Nick Lidster. On 21 July, Taylor performed at the opening night of the BBC Proms festival in Sage Gateshead, the BBC's first outside of London. But her songs are also maximalist, danceable and infectiously fun – a wholesale rejection of the restrained indie-folk of her previous band Slow Club. Now, Self Esteem is a name on everybody's lips - from her Meadowhall-inspired corset stealing the show at Glastonbury last summer to this tour selling a whopping 44,000 tickets - and Rebecca Lucy Taylor is extremely in-demand.

LP: I remember that when you were making Compliments Please [Self Esteem’s 2019 debut album], you would be frustrated by a lack of people paying the attention the album deserved, so what changed and when did that happen? She has said that they had to make the album on a small budget, but that their experience of working together on the first album made it easier to make a big sound with limited resources.During the period of recording she played live at Latitude, Tramlines and a sold out show at Omeara Theatre London, [26] followed by an eight-show UK tour in autumn 2018. The album was nominated for the 2022 Mercury Prize, the winner of which was Sometimes I Might Be Introvert by Little Simz. Olivier Award-winning West End musical Cabaret directed by Rebecca Frecknall has announced new cast members for the show at the Kit Kat Club in London. Jessie Atkinson of Gigwise concluded that Prioritise Pleasure "represents Rebecca Taylor reaching her well-deserved pinnacle, as a modern popstar with the whole package: voice, humour, choreography, honesty, looks and the uncanny ability to pen a banger". In Succession, Jesse Armstrong makes the final decisions but they pass through everybody first, so while it is much better for my mental health, since there are set hours and you see other people, it is more creatively diluted.

I joke that I’m selfish, since I’ve written this record because I know I’ll be touring it for 18 months, so what do I want to play every night? As an actor, Taylor played a cameo role in I HATE SUZIE TOO, and will soon be seen starring in a regular role in Sky’s upcoming series SMOTHERED as well as making her feature film debut in LAYLA. Her lyrics are unusual in that they are self-critical and confessional, embracing and exploring her own shortcomings and mistakes, as well as those of others.Back then she was still in Slow Club; she used the account to free herself from the restrictive image she felt people had of her.
