About this deal

I have not checked the contents of the box as this is a present for my son but I am hoping everything will be fine. Its seems ok on operation, although I have found that ch 4 doesnt trigger as reliably as the other 3.

With the RPL1116, the 1000Z Series PLUS models can monitor 2 analog channels with 16 digital channels or 3 analog channels and 8 digital channels. kgsws] wanted to use his Rigol DS1074 to show live measurements in his YouTube videos, but found out that this scope doesn’t support video output. The scope is a no brainier performance equal to much more expensive makes and with the decoders a powerful tool. The well documented trigger and jitter issues with the DS1000z range of Oscilloscopes have now been rectified by Rigol with a firmware update, so don’t let this put you off purchasing. b) The only correct thing to do is to turn off a channel or two to get a higher sample rate on the channel of interest.

I’ve been using the Siglent SDS2304X at work and its great but I’m heading back to school to finish of my studies and think it would be overkill for my private/school use. Python does have a way to deal with this using venv and pyenv, and there are other approaches as well.

The Instek can have these enabled via hacking, but the manufacturer does not have them as an option, which increases risk as they may simply vanish in a future update. Telonic mention a 12 month warranty, the rest of the world has a 3 year warranty… If you register the product with Rigol it appears to become a 3 year warranty, but only via Germany! A very clever trick was the addition of a reed switch, which allowed [kgsws] to set the EZ-USB board to programming mode without having to open the scope’s case, by simply holding a magnet near the switch. This compact lightweight digital oscilloscope provides exceptionally accurate waveform viewing and measurements. I was going to get a 2-channel scope from a named manufacturer but realised I could really do with 3 channels. Works well and responds virtually in real-time (unlike previous scope that downloaded a screenshot). As you're already familiar with Siglent's UI I'd recommend you you stick with them as it will save you a bundle of time learning a new UI. I was looking to supplement my trusty Tek 2-channel scope with a 4-channel one for those times when 4 channels are needed.

Serial Decode allows the user to convert the waveform into a decoded readable format which allows for quick determination of problems on a serial bus. Apparently DS1054Z only calculates the measurements over the data shown on the screen, which is decimated in a way that preserves visual look but not the mathematical properties. It feels well built, the screen is bright, information clear and it does not take long to get up to speed with the controls.

IMO, the Rigol does a really good job of generating a stable trigger overall--better in fact than any of my analog scopes except the 2465B, and excepting low signal levels where some of the analog scopes trigger cleanly on much lower signals. If I ever need more digital channels (Witch is rare) then I’ll just my knockoff Salea logic analyzer.

io/ to read data file from the scope and octave to analyse it, but it is slow – transferring full 24 Mpoints takes over 10 minutes. My only suggestion for improvement so far is that the user interface to clear the measurements selected by the buttons on the left of the display is too complicated. I got one to replace my ancient Hameg digital/analogue hybrid and my Philips analogue CRT scopes and it’s opened up a whole new world of measurement options. OTOH we can see that Rigols' mystery interpolation reduces the Gibbs Phenomenon when you're on the limit, ie.The affordable instruments in front of you today may not have a physical GPIB port, but the chances are they will have a USB port or even Ethernet over which you can exert the same control. Nope, the OP is already using a very capable Siglent at work and likely very familiar with it, it would be a mistake he would very likely regret selecting the lowest value 4ch DSO for his home use when the X-E that he has pondered about has a very very similar UI and even has some features its bigger brother has not.
