About this deal

Running your mouse over the "270" link in the mouse-over bar below the pictures clearly reveals the identity of this small shape. What puzzles me is that in max focal length of both camera (Canon 250mm and Tamron 270mm) Canon has managed to get closer to the subject, actually a lot. At all other focal lengths though, shading is never more than 1/3 stop wide open, and generally 1/4 stop or less as you stop down.

However, the distortion is not entirely linear, so it is not purely barrel-shaped or cushion-shaped, but a little wavy. Thanks to the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism, the focusing is pretty fast at all focal lengths and silent under sunlight.

In summary, the Tamron 18-270 VC is soft wide open and reasonably sharp when stopped down at least 1 stop or better yet, to f/8. This lens is the superzoom of choice if you want maximum telephoto reach – and it performs rather well, considering its massive 22x zoom range.

My intent was to say, no reason to do that on the X-S10 as the IBIS on Mode 1 is much better than using only the Tamron VC with camera IBIS off. If you're using it to shoot your kids ball games, just learn to anticipate the action, focusing ahead of time on the base they'll be sliding into, the goal they're heading toward, etc. It is even shorter than it is thick, with a diameter of almost 64 mm and a length of less than 61 mm.The lens has been reworked from its predecessor and is now slightly smaller, 24% to be precise, while the filter thread has also been decreased from a professional level 72mm to a more affordable 62mm. If you photograph a subject in the foreground, with a background that falls outside the depth of field, then you will not be bothered by this. In this article, we'll go over the basics of colorimetry so you can understand how we measure and plot color, and how colorimeters use this science to confirm your display's color accuracy. Where I focused exclusively on other vacation lenses, Jim also took a look at how the 18-250mm stacked up against a Canon 18-55mm lens (the USM version of the common 18-55mm "kit" lens) at the short focal length side of its range, and against a 70-200mm Canon "L" lens at the longer end. How much difference this makes in practice, of course, depends on how you view and present your images.

Then we noticed that while focusing, the image stabiliser would adjust the image slightly to lock the steadiness. When I first had my K3 I went up to the local country park and pointed the lens towards Canary Wharf which was 13 miles away from where I was standing. At 18mm, the field of view is 75°, which is the same as that of a 27mm lens on a 35mm full-frame camera.

Compared to these two lenses, we see that the Samyang is almost as good in the center at full aperture but clearly less sharp in the corners. We tend not to expect much from "vacation" zooms, so were pleasantly surprised by the Tamron 18-250mm f/3. Instead we've taken advantage of the ability to shoot at slower shutter speeds to stop down a bit and keep ISOs relatively low, for better overall image quality. This is common in lenses of this range and you have to spend nearly twice as much before finding a lens that has more heft and solid elements. At 270mm, the entire image is soft wide open and especially soft in the mid and corner areas of the frame. In a lens with a super focal length range, wide open aperture image quality is usually one of these sacrifices. an annoying habit of tromboning, no afs/usm and no VR/IS and it isn't as sharp as Tamron's 17-50 and yet as an all in one package it takes surprisingly decent photos. It's a tamron lens at heart, but tamron have always made great zoom lenes in the past, with the added SMC cotting it gives great depth in colour and the focusing is smooth and fast. Distortion is displayed on a scale of negative values (barrel distortion) through zero (zero distortion) and positive values (pincushion distortion).
