About this deal

An extremely uptight Christian, Howie is shocked at the pagan goings-on on Summerisle and is frustrated every which way: sexually, as he tries his darnedest to resist the advances of the landlord’s daughter, Willow ( Britt Ekland), as well as at every turn in his investigations by the lying locals and the charming Lord Summerisle ( Christopher Lee). A masterpiece of not just folk horror, or British horror, but horror in general, The Wicker Man is a classic for a reason. All three versions of the film; The Final Cut, the Director’s Cut and the Theatrical Cut, will be released in an exclusive Collector’s Edition and on 4k UHD for the first time on September 4 th. I remember my dad playing me Willow’s Song and I found it hypnotic and it started being a song I listened to a lot.

THE WICKER MAN (all 3 versions) will then be released in an exclusive Collector’s Edition and on 4k UHD for the first time on September 4th 2023. When a young girl mysteriously disappears, Police Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) travels to a remote Scottish island to investigate. The reproduction, modification, distribution, or republication of the content (including RSS feeds) without permission is strictly prohibited. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs.It certainly was, and still is, a movie that pulls you in and makes you think about what you are watching, its charm is its strangeness and building up the tension of what Howie (Woodward) is getting himself into while trying to find a missing girl on an island in pagan rituals and hidden secrets that takes the viewer into a strange and foreboding world. Relatively bloodless, the horror is in the dread we feel about what is happening beneath the surface, just out of view, and mind, of Howie, no matter how many homes he turns upside down in his quest. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the folk-horror classic, THE WICKER MAN, STUDIOCANAL is delighted to announce a brand-new 4K restoration of the film and a series of special events and releases, beginning this Spring and culminating with a Collector’s Edition release in September 2023. Audio and picture-wise, The Final Cut of The Wicker Man looks incredible, like it was shot yesterday, and the wonderful folk song soundtrack is as clear as a bell. It’s a creeping slow burn full of fascinating rituals (which are more cool than scary in this day and age), with a final reckoning that has been “homaged” by everything from Midsommar to Kill List to A Serbian Film.

THE WICKER MAN was directed by Robin Hardy and has a cast featuring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, Britt Ekland and Diane Cilento. The Wicker Man is an all-time classic movie and one that has a huge following, this 4K restoration of the Final Cut looks fantastic and the Collector’s Edition is certainly one for any movie fan’s home collection. Even in a modern England where folk rituals and stone circles are being embraced more than ever with the advent of zines like Weird Walk, Hellebore and Hwaet, and new female-led Morris dancing making it on stage at the Brits (where the Boss Morris troupe performed with Wet Leg this year) the finale still has tremendous, shocking power and burns itself into the brain. Britt Ekland is the surprise of the movie and for those that have never seen the movie be prepared for some scenes of nudity from Ekland, the other surprise is that most of the dialogue and singing that is on the screen from Ekland is dubbed over by the Scottish singer and actress Annie Ross. On 13th January 1973, as a thank you to the local people of the small Scottish town where THE WICKER MAN had recently been filmed, a one-night-only showing of the then unreleased film took place in a little cinema in Newton Stewart at 3pm.

The series forms a loose narrative, a connection between the past and present, using literal, metaphorical, and spiritual symbolism. Director Robin Hardy’s atmospheric use of location, unsettling imagery and haunting soundtrack gradually builds to one of the most terrifying and iconic climaxes in modern cinema. To celebrate the film’s iconic soundtrack, acclaimed record label HEAVENLY RECORDINGS have produced an exclusive 7 track EP featuring new versions of some of the film’s most memorable music, performed by Katy J Pearson and friends, including Broadside Hacks and H. THE WICKER MAN: Final Cut will be released in UK cinemas with accompanying 50th Anniversary event footage on June 21st: the Summer Solstice. She is also a Cinema reviewer and works with RealD 3D reviewing the latest 3D releases and IMAX, she has also had several articles published in various publications including the first edition of SFW Magazine.

I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features.
