One of the earliest reviews, posted by the UK newspaper The Guardian, said that the book was a "rattling read, and has a nicely detailed setting and covers enough reader interests – friendship, adventure – even pets.

The first installment in Paver’s Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, Wolf Brother is set in the Stone Age. Described as “involving” by Publisher’s Weekly, Wolf Brother set the stage for a further five volumes in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, which wrapped up in 2009 with Ghost Hunter. Born in Malawi in 1960 to a Belgian mother and a father who ran the tiny 'Nyasaland Times', Michelle Paver moved to the UK when she was three.

He felt as if his world-soul had snapped its link to all other living things: tree and bird, hunter and prey, river and rock. Wolf Brother takes place six thousand years ago during the Middle Stone Age, and tells the story of twelve-year-old Torak, a boy who can talk to wolves. Through the whispering spruce trees comes an evil more terrible than any clan can imagine, let alone defeat. Renn tells Torak the rest of the prophecy, which says he must find three parts of the " Nanuak", the strongest part of the world-soul, to please the World Spirit and ensure its aid.

They are taken to the Raven camp so Torak's fate can be decided by Fin-Kedinn, the Raven Clan leader. A complex plot puts an original slant on a good versus evil battle and will keep readers on the edge of their seats right to the last page.It opens up your eyes to a whole new world and i guarantee that you will never think of a book the same way again! It follows twelve-year-old Torak and his wolf-cub companion on their quest to fulfill the dying wish of Torak’s father. Fin-Kedinn and Saeunn, the Mage of the Raven Clan, hail Torak as the “Listener” foretold in a clan prophecy.

Since Wolf Brother first came out, I’ve been amazed by the intensity and creativity of readers’ responses – and now here is the place to share them. Their journey together takes them through deep forests, across giant glaciers, and into dangers they never imagined.Peer's evil uncles plan to sell children to the trolls, and only Peer and his friend Hilde stand in their way. On his journey, Fa tells him, Torak will find a “guide,” but he must avoid other people at all costs. One of my favorite books, i was choosing a book off a shelf and the front cover caught my eye, i picked it up and started reading and finished all but two of the books since someone checked them out and never gave them back. Nearly at their destination, Renn and Torak are recaptured by Hord and Oslak and taken to the Raven Clan's new temporary camp.
