About this deal

For the first time, the Real Housewives go on the record with the incredible story of the juggernaut franchise. In addition to reviewing reality TV, much of Dave's career has been spent writing about theater - which, when combined with the Housewives, makes him an expert in drama. This is the whole story straight from the lips of the women and men who have made it one of America’s favorite television shows. Things only got worse as the season progressed, resulting in an "epic meltdown backstage" at the reunion.

This review will also be gif-tastic because you can’t read and review a housewives book without housewives gifs. What I'm relieved I didn't know at the time was that Kroy had a gun with him that day (Georgia is an open-carry state) and production made him leave it in the car. The aptly titled tell-all recounts the oral history behind the Bravo reality TV franchise, stopping in Atlanta, New York City, Beverly Hills and more Real Housewives locations to get the inside scoop from past and present cast members, along with the producers and executives who got to know them both on and off the screen. Nene Leakes and Bethenny Frankel are both women who really defined the franchise and weren’t included in this book.

Too much of what was written has been biased for certain housewives while trying too hard to discredit others.A brawl at a nightclub in Punta Cana—sparked by a group of people getting "very aggressive" after Teresa Giudice accidentally sprayed champagne on the dancefloor, according to Caroline Manzo—had devastating consequences for Teresa, Caroline, Melissa Gorga, Jaqueline Laurita, their husbands and kids. The biggest flaw of this book is it was written prior to RHOSLC’s meteoric rise (they don’t even get a chapter or mention! After the reunion, he said he "kept throwing [Phaedra] life preservers to try to save herself, to explain why she might've been so angry at Kandi to make something like that up, or to profusely apologize, but she couldn't save herself.

Really interesting to hear from the producers about casting decisions, why some wives weren't asked to come back, etc. I was unpacking the trunk of my car, and this woman in a white jumpsuit came up to me and asked, “What the fuck are you doing? Scott Dunlop (Original Producer, Real Housewives of Orange County, Season 1 ): Of course Jeana would say I created the show for her, just like Vicki would say “It’s my show. According to her, producers had previously asked if there were any parts of her life she considered "off the table" for the show, and she mentioned her husband Juan Dixon's personal business and financial issues. First off I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge that this may very well end up being my one and only nonfiction selection for Nonfiction November.I took a little gander at the first fistful of ratings and (aside from fairly obvious sockpuppetry) I was surprised to see how many low reviews I found. how it 10000% played into the franchise’s habit of portraying queer women/sex between women as some shocking, scandalous thing really pissed me off. it really bothers me how some people’s physical violence and racism/bigotry was addressed seriously, while that of others was completely ignored or outright excused. If you loved mess but were left wanting more analysis/depth, I'd recommend Brian Moylan's book and the Andy's Girls podcast.

and just the way some of them talk about the women was iffy, like how andy talked about carole for example. The fight, which The Real Housewives of New Jersey cast has never publicly spoken about before, somehow ended, but the next morning, the police arrived to question everyone. Major cast members are not included (despite being interviewed, Lisa Vanderpump is barely quoted in the Beverly Hills chapter, but Chris Cullen, a producer who has since been fired, is quoted at length and he definitely has a grudge).Because when they’re crackin’ glasses on the edge of tables in RHOBH, smacking camera down in RHOD, throwing wine in people’s faces in RHOC, or flipping tables and pulling ponytails in RHONJ, nobody says, “Wow, these white women are ghetto! A previous attempt at this by our dear Brian Moylan got blacklisted and those involved with bravo were told to not do interviews for his book. When Porsha Williams confronted Kandi Burruss over a rumor that she and her husband Todd Tucker had once wanted to drug her to take advantage of her, "none of the producers thought anything" of the accusation, EP Carlos King said in the book. He really created a picture where these lonely, bored Housewives were staring out the window as these barely legal pool boys cleaned their pools. This book was clearly a mouthpiece for Cohen, and his bitchy little digs at women are getting tiring.
