The paint is spraying easily with no clogging or other issues, and the early colour impression looks, well, rusty! The water however seems to be where the magic is starting to happen, with the lighter shades beginning to show through.Fine mist spray that deposits a semi-transparent layer of gentle coloured dye that creates a dirty, old or aged look. Thoroughly stir the mixture and ensure that solids on the bottom of the pot are fully mixed into the liquid.

Using the airbrush seems to give you a result that’s more of a flat orange than a varied rust pattern, though going back afterwards with a brush you can change this. Once everything had been sprayed within an inch of its life (there’s plenty more that I didn’t record! Alternatively, apply some Darkstar Molten Metal Graphite from earlier with a very light dry brush, making sure to apply it gently over the top of your model. You can also shake the bottle to mix all the sediment together, but this way is quicker and less laborious!This image also shows yellow rust dabbed onto a sheet of black plastic using a piece of kitchen roll. PRO TIP: Rust will appear wherever water settles, so think about where water would naturally gather on your model before applying the rust. Gently press the damp flat end of kitchen roll against the dried rust paint, and twist the kitchen roll. Hold can upright 30cm (12 inches) away from the surface, and spray across the surface in one smooth sweep, keeping the nozzle fully depressed.
