About this deal

Adding an OLED-based screen technology to its range after years of disparaging the tech seems to have given Samsung’s marketing department a few headaches. If it delivers the picture-quality goods, though, we somehow don’t think we’ll see many consumers complaining about Samsung’s change of tune. It’s been a long time since a TV made such an instant impact on me as the S95B did when I first fired it up. Right away I was slapped around the face - in a good way - by its remarkable brightness and contrast. The S95B delivers an input lag measurement in its fastest response mode of just 9ms, finally, which is outstandingly low for a TV. Samsung provides a pretty lengthy suite of picture adjustment options, though - including pro calibration tools and the Smart Calibration system mentioned at the end of the picture quality section. Also, Samsung’s TV Plus collection of streamed TV services not found on regular broadcast platforms has become increasingly useful thanks to increased curation, and literally as I was wrapping up this review Samsung started rolling out its Game Hub, offering a range of streamed gaming services and fast response time functionality.

Worries that Samsung’s new QD-OLED technology might have pretty much peaked at launch with 2022’s S95Bs are emphatically put to bed by the S95C. Being brand new models at the time of publishing, you’re not guaranteed to see these two TVs on sale for a significant amount anytime soon. Tizen may have made more sense when it was released in 2015 and proprietary OSes like this were more common and less developed, but compared with something like the intuitive, streamlined Google TV, it’s really showing its age. If it was once intended as an all-encompassing platform, its having been removed from Samsung’s phones and Galaxy Watch smartwatch line make it now feel more like a relic than an integrated part of the TV experience. Samsung 65-inch Class S95B OLED 4K Smart TV (QN65S95BAF) review: Remote If the sound produced by the QN65S959BAF’s 60-watt speakers isn’t as good as its picture, it’s still more than good enough to satisfy any non-audiophiles. (They, and anyone less forgiving, will want to consider one of our best soundbars.) I was initially unable to perform our standard input lag measurements with an HDFury Diva HDMI matrixdue to testing conditions at Samsung's facility. Instead, I measured lag using the Leo Bodnar 1080p Video Signal Input Lag Tester. I recorded 9.4 milliseconds in its Game mode, just below the 10ms threshold we use to declare a TV to be among the best for gaming.

Scores

In TV side of QD-OLED the only TVs with Samsung Display's QD-OLED panels that are sold in North America are the 55" and 65" Sony XR-55A95k and the Sony XR-65A95K.Not sure where your information comes from but it is highly incorrect, the S95B may not be strongly marketed as a QD-OLED by Samsung, but make no mistake it is only in 55" and 65" same as the A95K because it comes off the exact same panel line with the exact same limitations in sizes, it is QD-OLED, otherwise it's ability to cover over 90% of the BT2020 color space would be absolutely impossible with any WRGB OLED off of LG's now outdated line, they barely cover 76%, should do your research before spreading false info As of now the ONLY 3 QD-OLED displays are on the active market is the Alienware AW3423DW with the MSI MEG 342C coming soon using the Samsung Display Ultrawide QD-OLED panel. The QN90B’s additional size options along with its lower price make this category an easy win for the Neo QLED. With all this in mind, it’s worth finishing this section by mentioning the S95B’s Smart Calibration feature, which lets you calibrate your TV using just your mobile phone. This turns in results closer to Filmmaker mode than the other more exciting presets, but it’s still a useful tool to consider for film fans who don’t want to pay hundreds of pounds for a professional calibration service. This may be due to some undesirable interaction the quantum dots and the OLED panel; as this is the first QD-OLED set we’ve reviewed, it’s difficult to say for sure. And, to reiterate, seeing the differences is not easy with most video. But for a TV this expensive, every detail counts, and this is one where the QN65S95BAF just fails to rise to the challenge. Samsung 65-inch Class S95B OLED 4K Smart TV (QN65S95BAF) review: Audio

The Standard picture preset that we suspect most S95B users will feel most drawn to does a much better job of still providing plenty of impact from the screen’s brightness, contrast (including superb rendering of subtle shadow details) and colour volume advantages without typically tipping the picture into unbalanced, unnatural territory. Talking of HDR, as with pretty much all Samsung TVs these days the S95B can support the ‘standard’ HDR10 format, the live stream-friendly HLG format, and Samsung’s home-grown HDR10+ format, which adds extra scene by scene data compatible TVs can use to deliver better HDR images. Samsung continues, however, not to support the premium Dolby Vision HDR format - even though more content is available in Dolby Vision than HDR10+. Viewing experience may vary according to the type of content, format and source. Upscaling may not apply to PC connection and Game Mode. Its remarkable colour, contrast and, by OLED standards, brightness capabilities together with another aggressive Samsung presentation make HDR games look dazzlingly colourful, punchy, sharp and ‘alive’. Beyond anything even LG’s mighty G2 can do, in fact.

Both models also feature thin bezels and include a stand in the box for convenient placement on a media unit, although they can both be wall mounted if you so desire. Samsung opts for a centre-mounted, low-profile square pedestal, whereas Sony has swapped its incredibly heavy stand from the A95K for a pair of angled feet (as seen above). The versatile stand from the A95K will be missed as it could be mounted in two ways to either sit flush against a wall or give the TV a floating appearance, but its deceiving mass could be a problem.
