About this deal

Make the most of the space you’ve got available by opting for an L-shaped raised garden bed. These fit neatly into a corner and can even be combined with a seating area. Thanks to their easy maintenance and hassle-free harvesting, pyramid raised beds are an excellent choice for gardeners short of time. Try filling each tier with your favourite herbs. Most perennial herbs have shallow root systems so suit this style of raised bed perfectly. If you have garden furniture which needs a new lease of life, upcycling wood is a low-cost option to fit in with your budget garden ideas. Wood is a perfect material for the garden because it provides a rustic style which works great with the natural and rugged nature of a garden. Breathe new life into an old bench you have in the garage or head to a second-hand furniture store to find an old gem. Our classic range of raised garden beds follows the traditional allotment design. Some of our best-selling allotment beds are 6ft by 3ft - which is the perfect size for tending to, as the far side can be worked without having to step on the soil. As stated, there is a range of sizes available with more being added all the time. We are confident that our raised garden beds will suit any allotment, community farm, or rooftop garden. Buy tall, thin trellis to fit the width of the seat and secure it in the planter box and to each end of your bench. Use wire or string or plastic ties and make sure it is stable.

The platform bed is probably one of the most standard bed designs around, and the design we chose for our van build. No splinters, no splits and no rot mean this range of outdoor recycled plastic benches and seats is low maintenance, weatherproof, safe and designed to deal with the most demanding environment (like the British winter). Divide different sections of your garden such as the patio and lawn by using raised beds. Creating zones in your garden can make the space appear bigger, while also screening certain areas from overlooking neighbours. Avoid building over or too close to drainage and sewerage access points. You’ll need to ensure access is still easy for these important maintenance areas. These types of beds are also inconvenient if you’re sleeping schedule is not on par with your partner.

Raised Beds

The benefit of a portable raised bed is that it can be moved to a sheltered location in bad weather. Large planters or pots offer the same benefits. Fixing wheels to your planter like the model pictured above will make moving it around your patio exceptionally easy. Allowing for more efficient maintenance than a longer, rectangular bed, U-shaped beds give you access to all areas of the bed from one spot. U-shaped beds can be a lot larger than rectangular beds while providing the same easy maintenance. Integrating a bench seat will give you a cosy and contained area to relax. Another alternative is two planters fixed to a bench. These can be bought in plastic or metal and you can just add small annuals to the planters for a great place to have your lunch. 2. Sawn-off tree branch seat and matching planter If you’re wanting to grow less hardy plants or those that prefer warmer temperatures, a garden greenhouse is one of the best investments you can make. Walk-in greenhouses are great if you’ve got a lot of space, but mini greenhouses with just a couple of shelves will extend your growing season without taking over your garden.

Raised planters constructed from wood are both strong and durable but are susceptible to rot. Ensure you buy pressure treated timber for this project. Just add 2 vertical gardening planter boxes beside it! If the planters are a little unstable, attach them to your bench. This is worth doing if you have balls being thrown around, boisterous pets or younger gardeners. There’s not much more rewarding as a green thumbed parent than seeing the little ones following in your footsteps! A raised planter box with legs can be adjusted so it’s the perfect size for your kids. Teach them to plant, care for, and harvest carrots, peas and lettuce! If, on the other hand, you fancy putting your DIY skills to the test, a wooden planter box is fairly easy to put together. Wooden boards can be cut to the right size and glued together. Once the glue has dried, drill screws into the wood for added strength. With flares, you can install your mattress width-wise and gain a few feet of useable space. They are not cheap and require professional installation. Raised beds are the perfect way to grow fruit and vegetables in your garden, tunnel, or allotment. They make vegetable and flower gardening much easier especially for beginners.Raised beds are very easy to maintain and provide a smaller area to weed & keep pest free. Our kits have a very natural design, are made with long lasting spruce timber boards and corner posts. Our kits are easy to assemble and are available in a multitude of sizes and depths. Abuild-your-own option is also available for a bespoke raised garden. Other than doing any touchup sanding, you’re basically done. At this point, you can apply the finish of your choice—stain, varnish, wood sealer, paint—or simply leave it as is (Photo J).

It is much easier to add manure or other organic soil feeds to a small, enclosed area rather than a larger plot where much of the plant feed can go to waste. Growing in raised beds tends to be concentrated over a relatively small area. This means that applying plant and soil feed can be more accurate, effective, and economical - with little or no waste. Once you find a cool place to park, the whole platform can be slid out so you can hang out in the sunlight and sleep under the stars. Bunk Bed @fitetravels Cucumbers do very well in raised beds, but they do need a depth of around 18” to grow properly. Give them a spot in full sun and protect them from frost in the winter months. Growing them on stakes or a trellis like the image above will give you more space beneath. The seating platform can be supported with a simple frame made out of the 47x50mm timber. You’ll need to cut 45mm off each of the first side pieces so that they line up with the rest of the timber. This can be done using a circular saw. Some edible climbers include peas and beans but these are annuals and you will need to change the crop each year. To help prevent weeds, cover the ground inside the bed with newspaper or landscaping cloth before filling with premium quality soil developed especially for raised beds, such as Miracle-Gro® Raised Bed Soil. Also, be sure to feed your veggies and herbs throughout the season with a plant food like Miracle-Gro® Shake ‘n Feed® Tomato, Fruit & Vegetable Plant Food, which is designed to give your edible plants the nutrients they need to grow strong and deliver a big harvest. These designs have the added value of being recycled, they’re made in Britain and they have planters to match. Placed altogether in your garden, you can be sure that you are bringing true British style to your outdoor space.
