Final steps. I painted the manhole and grate with Typhus Corrosion, then drybrushed it with Ryza Rust to give it an old rusted metal look and a gritty texture. Next comes the technical paints. I painted a few globs of Nurgle’s Rot on the cover, and a generous dollop under the tip of the tentacle and in the crook where it’s bending over itself. This gives it a wet, green texture but I want to get the rest of the model. I don’t want to wash out the green completely so the rest of the model gets covered in ‘Ardcoat. Emma: This colour is all about punch, it’s so bright and powerful. Doomfire Magenta straight out of the pot gives you a vivid pink for cloth or magic spells. It also suits Daughters of Khaine or Escher Gangers if you want some cool pink hair colours. Lizzie: What a name! Perfect on Daemonettes and other Daemons of Slaanesh – you can apply this over a light skin tone to create gaunt and sunken flesh. It’s also fun to use over metallics to create a really unique tone.

Emma: Regally vibrant, Luxion Purple keeps a bright tone even in the darker areas of your miniatures – great for Hedonites of Slaanesh and the Emperor’s Children . This is my favourite purple Contrast of all time! The other parts of the models are more consistent – the shiny insectoid carapace uses Gryph-Charger Grey over a Leadbelcher basecoat, with added highlights of thin striped Stormhost Silver , all followed up with a wash of Terradon Turquoise thinned with Contrast Medium . The meat and bone bits are Flesh Tearers Red over Wraithbone, with Pallid Wych Flesh highlights. The meaty parts then got a thinned Volupus Pink wash, while the talons and hooves were finished with a wash of Gryph-Charger Grey. Gav: Termagants and Neurogaunts Aeldari Emerald is a colour unlike any in the current Contrast range, giving you a brand new choice for a whole range of effects. Lizzie: This is an incredibly versatile new shade of brown. It’s perfect for leather and cloth. This is fantastic for adding some extra grime to your Nurgle miniatures too. Thanks for the insight Lizzie! Many of these new paints differ from the bulk of the existing Contrast range in exciting new ways, opening up many possibilities for painters, new and old. That’s it, your Saurus is done! If your shield has areas that you want to make stone, like I did on mine, just follow the same steps from the stone weapon.

Need a brown that’s got the tan punch of Snakebite Leather but is stronger like Cygor Brown? Garaghak’s Sewer is your weapon of choice. First I applied a blue and purple mix of deep toned translucent paints to the tentacle. Specifically I used Army Painter’s Beowulf Blue and Swarm Purple Speedpaints mixed at about 50:50. This was a bit brighter than I would like so I continued glazing, that said that could be a perfectly acceptable tentacle in the right context so feel free to stop there.A new alternative to Volupus Pink , Doomfire Magenta is lighter and brighter, opening up new avenues for painting pinkish tones. I have had a great deal of fun experimenting with using various real-world colour schemes that can be found in nature for my Tyranids. I’ve so far attempted schemes based on the following: When gluing, you might want to use super glue, as it sets much faster than plastic glue. Here is some advice on using superglue to achieve the best results. Put the tree sideways, attach a single branch, and let the glue set and cure completely. Then, turn the tree by 90 degrees, and attach the next branch. Work your way from top to bottom and most importantly, be patient and let the glue of each branch dry completely before you move on. I learned this the hard way, as half of my branches fell off as the glue hadn’t set yet… They were finished off with another highlight by mixing in Screaming Skull to the Tuskgor Fur. The Gold Lizzie: As majestic as Sigvald himself, this is a really vibrant colour that shades and highlights effortlessly. Naturally, I’ve tried this on the Prince himself and I can confirm – he heartily approves.

Retributor Armour: Gold is a warm metallic color that pairs well with the cool tones of purple and pink. Retributor Armour is a high-quality metallic gold that can be used to highlight and add accents to miniatures painted with Volupus Pink. The great thing about this scheme is that if I need to paint a lot of models fast, as you often do with Tyranids, then they look great and ‘Battle Ready’ at just the Contrast paint stage and I can add the highlights later. Lizzie: A bold and brash paint with subtle darker tones, this is really versatile. Of course, it’s ideal for those Aeldari Striking Scorpions, but it’s brilliant for glazing onto eye lenses and gemstones to create glowing effects. Emma: I’ve been painting for many years, and Contrast is one of the most fun and versatile paint ranges I’ve worked with. They are easy and fun to use, making armies faster than ever to paint.Imperial Fist takes up the gauntlet thrown down by Nazdreg Yellow and Iyanden Yellow, pushing the pigment further and making yellow even more of a breeze to paint. Lizzie: A firm favourite of mine, this is great for creating ghostly skin. This looks great over a White Scar undercoat to make your Nighthaunt suitably spooky!
